Kids & Food:Fluids for 11 month old baby
2005-09-15
Name: K V

Hi,
I have a 11 months old son. He was exclusively breastfeeded for initial 5.5 months and i had started other foods after that.

I have the follwing queries. Any pointers on this would be helpful.

1. he is not at all used to the bottle. he doesn't drink anything from the bottle. but he does take all solid foods (rice, dhal, idly, veggies, apple, banana, etc).
It is very hard to feed him fluids. I still breastfeed and give him normal milk (125 ml per day) and satthu maavu mix (125 ml per day) when he is half sleep. He takes fluids from bottle only when he is half sleep. I do breastfeed him 3-4 times a day (incldes night feed). other than this he doesn't take any fluids (not even plain water). Any pointers how to make him drink water? Is this amount of fluid intake is sufficient as i'm worried since he doesn't take water? he doesn't have any stomach problems till now (constipation, etc). Is it safe to give him milk when he is half sleep? how much fluid should be given to a 11 month old baby?

2. I give him dhal every alternate days (moong dal / thoor dal). Can I give him dhal daily?

3. Now he has veggies like carrot, beans, potateo & cauliflower. What other veggies i can introduce?

4. Can I introduce yogurt?

5. I heard that raisin is very good for health. How to cook that?

Any pointers on this would be helpful.

Thanks in Advance.

hi,
i faced same problem. i breast feeded my son for 3 years till i was in family way again. my son never liked to be fed by bottle. so i had to feed cow milk to him intially by spoon when he was sleeping, later on i shifted to feeding milk by glass, but again while sleeping. he has never taken milk while awaye.
now i am trying to change his this habit. but giving milk while sleeping is not harmful, but the milk should be warm.

Hi

Thats nice that he is eating his food. Yes dal is safe to give everyday. And regading vegetables you can give him brocoli, spinach, tomato etc.

Yogurt is really good for health. U can try giving him. And regarding nt drinking water u can try giving him little litle in a glass. Usually after intake of food.

Good luck

RE:The Parents Guide to Healthy Snacking
So my sister’s child is a very fussy eater. She generally makes veggie cheese rolls or sandwiches to get her to eat her vegetables. She tries to use colourful and pretty veggies to get her to eat. Giving smoothies, fruit salads and milkshakes is another appetizing and attractive method. In fact she even decided to supplement her diet with Immuno Boosters and Brain Booste... - say [View Message]
