We have planned to do it piercing pogoda in a mall near our place this weekend. last time when i went to the mall i saw couple of babies were ear pierced. they ddint cry much like say a minute or so. thats it. no pain at all. what that piercing lady told me was, do all the shopping and then come lastly here. coz babies in this age, they will be excited and they show 1 ear, after the shock of 1ear they wont show other ear,it will take some time for doing the second ear.
moreover most of my friends did their, and no one got any kind of infections.

As Vidya said, its true that u cant put our Indian studs which has thick stem. but there are models with thin stem also. so it will be good looking with 22k than these 14k American gold studs.
Vidya, what most of my friends did was, when the baby is 3yr old or when the baby can toleret pain u can try putting our indian studs. 90% u will suceed. orelse if u r concerned soo much, next time when u visit india, there u can make the hole bigger. thats also 1 minute job. so dont worry abt this.

I haven't posted anything here for a long time now. But had to on this one.

I pierced Sriya's ears when she was 6 months from th piercing pagoda. The pain is nothing, lasts only for a few seconds. she cried for a minute tha tis all. It is over before u know it. Nothing happened no ear infections, Everyhting is ok adn she looks cute with the earing.

But to all moms i would suggest to not get it pierced in the US or in India, if they use a shot gun. The reason is the hole is too small, only the width of a needle. So she cannot wear any Indian earing, which generally has a thicker stem, we tried to put the india earings (she has lots that she got as gifts) but it is too painful, and the first time blood came out. So now she does not let us change the earing even. Though I asked all my friends and the ped (also an indian, mallu infact with 2 daughters of her own), no one told me about this. Now when i tell them they say ya we too are in the same boat. Some of them have forced the indian earring on the ear with a lot of effort, succeeded but with a lot of bleeding. But they do not recommend it though. Also I do not have the heart to put her thru all that pain. Now I am in dilema, hoping that by the time she is 1 maybe her ear lobe will be thicker and won't bleed so much.

If someone would have told me about this issue earlier, i would definitely have not got it pierced here.
Good Luck!

Vidya

Hi,..

Everyday when cleaning her ear you can jus rotate her earrings once or twice.
Try using a coconut oil when changing the ear rings. you can apply to front n back of the hole and also to stud . and give a try..it will be lubricated and the stud shd go in smooth.

There was just a drop of blood. As soon as we saw it we stopped. Tried after a few weeks, but she wouldn't let us. Tried again after a few weeks in her sleep. but that too she wouldn't letft. I think she still remembers the pain. Got to try again in some time, dreading that though.

About tht friend, she said a lot of blood came. But it healed it self (they were putting the antiseptic loction u get when u pierce). No infection or anything. And that girl is fine now. She is almost 4 now.

In general, if you clean it ver well, like they tell u after piercing it won't be infected.

The ear piercing itself is not a big deal. Even I was scared and asked 100 people before I did it. Checked all the old messages on the OCT 03 board, asked them again before i did. Nothing to be scared about it. In kerala, they pierce on the 28th day, my sis's baby is also same age, in July, her's was pierced on the 28th day in India. No infection nothing.

Hi Vidya,

i got anushka's ears pierced at 7 months. I thought it will be better in US than in INdia, coz here they did both the ears at the same time which is less painful for the baby. Went as u said, not too painful for her. Didn't cry a lot, just a min, and no ear infections watsoever. Now I am really concerned abt changing the earrings. I haven't tried that but was thinking abt it before her first bday.I'll try and let u know how it went.

REgards,
SHeetal

Thanks a lot for all your inputs.. I am also very very scared to get it done for my baby.. But, I guess the earlier its done, its easier for the baby... isnt it? I am planning to get it done today (its ekadashi today) at Nikku's ped office.. Anyways, we are going there for her 1 year check-up. I dont know what method they use for piercing. First I will find out, and if its satisfying to me I will go ahead.. I hope I have a sound exp as Sheetal did..:) I didnt know that one has to wait so long to get the earrings changed. I was thinking of Nikku wearing her diamond earrings that her Nanaji gave on her 1st b'day.. but looks like it will have to wait...

Sheetal, Vidya.. one question.. how did you manage to keep your babies still while doing it.. Also, do they try to rub their ears a lot afterwards?? If so, how did you manage it..

Regards,
Bhairavi.

Hetal, i just went to my pediatrician. She did it. They will just charge for the earrings like $32-35 coz i think they r 14K gold.

Good luck for nirja.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
