Due Date Club April 2007:Baby positioning for first timers and subsquents

Dear friends,

As i told u in my earlier message this is another info i could gather from previous message board which i thought i should share it with you all.

What an expecting mother should try - to help descend baby easily? First of all can one and if yes then what's that?

1. Firs of all lets not get confused on what's writen in books. This is because each case is different. Yes, in most first time mothers they may experience fetal engagement anytime after 34 weeks and can be as early as 4 weeks or as late as 2 hours from labor. Unfortunately everybody expects to experience weeks before and that's so sad and incorrect.

2. A few came from last months with subsequent pregnancies and concerned that baby is high and they are in 37th or 38th week. For second time and subsequent pregnancy it is common not to experience fetal engagement few hours to a week before exact labor.

So, most first time mothers will see baby head engaged in pelvis 2-4 weeks early labor or in a few cases will happen only around labor. For second time and subsequent this is likely to happen only around labor or maximum a week before labor.

In fact nothing is there in one's hand to get fetal head engaged. But one can try some yoga positions if felt comfortable. Seating flexed legs (Bhartiya Baithak), or try to some extent Padmasana. Try to crawl on your fours. Kneel and mop the floor so that be dry. Squatting is a great exercise. Actually many living in western world using wester fashioned toilets are not going to squat routinely and can face some troubles with bowel movements or sometime hemorrhides. Not that Indian styled toilet users won't have these complication but they will face little to none as compared to western styled toilets. Therefore for Western style users should try and do squatting exercise anytime from second trimester, this is going to help keep rectum in open and easy position to keep bowels clean and no trouble for fetal descending.

Besides all the walking is perfect and help keeping blood circulation in control.

Some will experience loosing mocous plug as hevay discharge with tint of blood or little brownish color. While some will face it like a thick cream colored discharge. This is one of the labor sign and labor can be expected as early as in few hours to as late as 2 weeks from this point.

regular contraction is right sign. If you experience braxton hicks contraction with high frequency at the end of pregnancy don't get alarmed. But not facing them does not indicate any problem either.

Wish all the expectanrt moms best of luck.

cheers
saradha

Hi saradha,
this is great to know. I had a question though, when you lose the mucous plug, does the creamy colour discharge come in one go or does it keep coming for a few days? And how do you tell the difference between this discharge and the normal starchy discharge that one gets during pregnancy?
