It my request to all of you , get your hemoblobin test done when you are pregnant, if it falls below 10 get the HB electrophoresis done, this is the test for Thalassemia, which we were never adviced by our Gyneacologist and now we are suffering as our child is diagnoised with Thalassemia major, a genetic blood disorder.
Especially this is very common in Norther parts of India that the both parents carry a trait and which is then passed on to a chil which leaves life long suffering as there is no cure for this disorder. semo replied. hi Palak,
Thalassemia is a genetic disorder common in indians, but it affects our children, only if both the parents have that trait or the disease, which especially happens when you marry your cousin or some relative in the family. As both belongs to the same family, both of them may have the trait and thus child also will get the disease. If only one parent is having the disease or the trait, there is no need to worry, as the child will not get the disease, but may have the trait.
