Hiya, I have dark underarms, and it's very embarassing. I am thinking of buying a epilator. Does anyone know if it will help clear up my underarms? Please help! Jo Prabhu replied. Hi Monica,

I am a US Cosmetologist and darkening of underarms is due to a number of reasons:
You scrape your skin too hard while shaving
You used the same razor more than 3-4 times-use a new blade after 3-4 shavings
You have waxed your underarms with wax that was too hot
You have waxed the same area several times during the same waxing procedure thereby irritating the skin
You have used contaminated implements or lotions
You have not used skin soothing lotions after hair removal
You have used whitening or hair removal products that caused a reaction.
Your sleeves are too tight and your skin constantly rubs against your outfit.
You could also have a fungus which results in skin darkening, and in any case, you should promptly see a dermatologist.
You should think back to when it all started and avoid each procedure that could have caused your skin to darken.
In the meantime, give your skin a rest, do not try ANY hair removal procedures, and wear loose sleeves for at least 3 months to allow your skin to heal.
If the problem persists, see your dermatologist.
