Due Date Club July 2005:sleep training

Hi friends,

I am thinking of sleep training my baby. She gets up couple of times at night for milk. Could you all please let me know what would be the best way to do it w/o making her cry. I have read previous posts by Sheeja and all, saying not to feed the baby in night and just rock her to sleep, or give water when she gets up. How effective is this method. Also, how many days does it take for it to be effective.

Hope to hear your experiences,
Regards,
Bhairavi.

Hi Bhairavi,

I have also read posting by various members on this regard and always surprised how did they achieve. Even my SIL was saying it could be done. As far as my experience goes, my baby used to wake up twice in night till 8months as his feed interval is max 3-4 hrs, so t was perfectly fine for him to get feed twice.

At month of 9th-10th month, he started going to sleep at 10pm and only wake up for feed at around 5am, but to achieve this, I made sure that he get feed at around 9-9.30pm just before going to sleep.

Even now sometime if his before going on bed feed is not sufficient for some reason he wakes up at 4am also.

What I wanted to mentioned is its all depend on feed quantity and duration of their hunger.

So see if you can get similar thing done for yr baby, slwly she will will take only one feed early morning.

Sudha

hi Bhairavi

good that u remember my posting which i wrote very long back.
even after 10 months age, if baby is waking up couple of times for milk then u shud definitely do something to make her into restful sleep.
first see, how long does she sleep in the daytime. maximum of 3-4hrs daytime nap is enough at this age.
give a warm bedtime bath everynite follwedby dinner. try to make her sleep in 45-1hr after dinner.
as i told earlier,if she wakes up in the middle try to rock her withour feeding. intially it will be very difficult. i guess ur baby has got use to waking up even she is not hungry.
if she still behaves cranky in nite then try giving water.

its all depends on our babies, there is no specific time period for making them to sleep full nite. u can see some changes in 5-7days.

takecare
love to lil one( name?)

Thanks Sheeja and Sudha,

I will definitely give this method a shot. All this while I was postponing it since getting up in the night for training her was very tiring for me. And since she got up only once or twice, I didnt mind. But now I want to get rid of her nighttime wakings.

BTW, my baby's name is Anika.

love to your kids,
Bhairavi.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
