Hi Reena,
You have got lots of suggestions already. Here are some bits from me.
First of all, have heart. Yes, I know its easier said than done. But be patient, have faith in your abilities as mom. If you were not fit for the job, God and mother nature wouldn't have given you this wonderful opportunity.
Now,
Radha was quite fussy when I started her on top feeds and solids when she was 4.5 months old (I wanted to join office and also she was on poor side of weight chart, even though I had ample milk). I was almost as frustrated as you are, she won't throw up but used to cry very hard. My heart used to feel twisted..
She was not ready to take bottle also.
But you know what, this continued for 15 days and them my mom came to my place and tried to feed her using bottle (and also semi-solids).. she created much much less fuss and within no time she started taking her porridge (home made, rice+moon dal ka powder se banaya huwa) with enthu! Bottle she took longer time. She is OK with bottle now when she is almost 8 months old! and that too when I am not there to feed her.
1> So first tip would be getting someone (who will be very nice to her) to feed him and you should be at far distance (in another room, or just outside house). I am not sure if Rishu's dad would do, because in my case, Radha won't take it from her dad too...
Ofcourse before feeding that someone has to become friends with Rishu, play with him. So this will be gradual process.
2> As Komal has said, try giving nice ripe banana. Mash it with spoon adding little BM. If you have hand-blender it will be quicker and smoother shake. Radha loves that and very rarely says NO to banana. Also when she was fussing little for rice etc she had mangoes bade chaawse (summer season). According to Dr. R.K Anand, banana is his favorite first food.
3> Try some different home made foods like sooji ki kheer, not very thick. Sweet things are ususally more liked by babies. Do not worry if it will make Rishu dislike non-sweet things.. there is lots of time to get these kiddus on good-food habbits. First aim is to make them EAT something and to like the process itself !
4> Always put ghee in rice ka dishes. As per my Doc it increases bulk (calories) without increasing quantity. I know in US doctors fret about cow milk and its products. But in India docs are ok with it. Ofcourse you will have to do one trial run and wait for 2-3 days and then only start adding regularly.
5>Try mix veggies ka thick soup rather than individual vegetables.. maybe he will like that better. We give Radha soup of carrots+tomatoes+Dudhee (Ghiya)+beet-root+red pumpkin+moong daal. We mix together small quantity of each, add little salt (pinch), little sugar (1/2 teaspoon or less) and pinch of hing (asofoetida)and pressure cook with little water. When cooked hand-mixie se make puree and feed her.
6> This again is repetitive suggestion, but I will stress on it: come to India for some time. You and Rishu both need some break. Come to place which will have lots of loving people to take care of Rishu. This will help you in trying first tip also. and ofcourse it will give you much much needed breather.
I guess its quite long message, so will stop now.
But again will tell you, you are strong so be it that way and this too shall pass.
Love to you and Rishu,
Take care,
Archana
