My daughter is 19 months old. she just says a 2-3 words like mama, amma, tata, papa. since one week her blaberring her increased.she keeps saying so many things but in her own language. Is this normal? will she start talking normally soon? i am in a place where there are no good doctors. so cant go a doctor for speech therapy. She is very playful.so doenst like to learn animals, body parts etc. she doesnt like to sit at a place. but she understands most of what ever we say. Please advise.

My son who is 21 months old now, has the same problem. My mom is all worried because she tells that I started speaking by the time I was 1 year old.. so what happened to my child.
As the doctor says, the kids normally learn quickly when they hear other kids talking. My friends son had the same issue but started speaking in two months when he joined a play school. My sons problem is he is at home with the maid alone and he gets to hear only what she says.. and there is a limit .. you know the maids wont take much interest.
If possible, the best way is to send them to a playschool for some hours.
They should hear people talking - There should be people at home ( many of us either live in a nuclear family) whome they will hear talking the whole day.
Dont worry... Dont expect too much out of your baby.

Hi kruti,
Oh dear you are expecting too much from this little girl.
your daughter is doing just fine. Some kids can go from not speeking to a sentence and as per her age she seems so normal.
If she doesn' t sit sing lot of songs ,tell lot of story etc. she doesn' t like to sit which is so normal she wants to explore the world around her which it self is a big achievement and that' s how is the learning begins .
She understands you thats great coz thats how you learn and her saying NO is so normal you have to understand she is increasing her vocabulary .She is learning a language with all the excitment around her .
Take it easy and believe me.Just do as i said play and sing and tell story tell names of things around her.
take care and enjoy your sweety pie.

I think it should be okay, my daughter does the same, never sits at one place for a longer and speaks so many things in her own language. It' s good sign rather than not tryint to speak at all.

Hi ,
It looks like we are in same boat !! My son is 19 month old and doesn' t say any meaningfull word. He does talk a lot in his own language and understands everything. Most of the time he points out what he wants. I never faced this problem with my daughter. I do talk a lot with him and make sure he knows all the words. But he is not talking. I' m really worried.

asked the doctor here. he says unless u get her to mingle with children, she wont talk because we are giving her all that she wants by her showing signs. so he said its difficult for her to develop quickly. so lets try .hope for the best. if urs start talking soon, let me know
good luck

Hi,
We are in New Jersey, USA. Well, the doctor didn´ t tell me to do anything yet. In his last physical(18month), we were told that at that age it´ s normal to have 10-20words vocabulary.Though he didn´ t have that, but he was trying to say few words. So the doctor said keep trying and talk to him.But it´ s not working much.So I´ ll wait till his next check-up,which is due in June. Let´ s see !! HOpe for the best.

Good luck !

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. Hints for Nursing
Babies eat and eat and eat. Although nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment, in the beginning it's almost guaranteed to be harder than you expected. From sore nipples to tough latch-ons, nursing can seem overwhelming.
