Due Date Club July 2005:Car seat opinion?

Hi All

I discussed with couple of my friends whoz having 4yr and 2 yr kids.

what they advised was, buying a costly car seat is not a good idea, coz kids make lot of mess in their car seat. They may spill juices, ketchups etc etc things. We will be going to parks, play areas, beaches etc. In 8-10 months the car seat will look too bad. So if we buy normal cost seat like $50 one, we can change every 8-10 months. Kids will also enjoy in sitting in their new car seats. There are convertible car seat from 25-40lbs. this convertible to lost for abt a yr. Then we can go for a booster from 40-100lbs. When they complete age3, there is another type of booster seat...the seat to increase the height alone...i mean only base will be there.

We dont no how comfartable for our babies when they sit in the same car seat for 2 or 3 yrs. So its good to go for cheaper car seats..

what do u feel ?? Do share your opinions.

love to all lil one.
Will post Trisha's snaps soon.

I would personally go for the one which has good consumer report, easy to clean and comfortable and which I can use for long time - means durable. I have had good reports about the Britax brand and almost all the people I know have those. I saw Britax marathon as well as Decathlon and liked Decathlon better because it looked more comfortable to me - extra padding and all. To go with it I also purchased a 10$ neck support and am sure I would use it. I have washed Arjun's infant car seat couple of times as he had bad reflux and would often get dirty. We had a graco sungride for him again based on research, referral and comsumer reports. But if cost is a factor then yes Britax ones are expensive ones but they have a larger weight limit than any other car seat. But again you may want to purchase a second hand britax which has no accident history - that can reduce the cost a bit. Or you can purchase a new one and after use if its still in good condition you can try reselling as I am sure some people out there could make use of it without spending too much money.

I am buying a second hand umbrella stroller just for $8 the same model I saw in babysrus could have costed me 120$ or so.

everything is okay like you said. i did that for my crib set. but now onwards my dh does not want to buy the 2nd hand. he says as it is you are paying, pay abit more and be the first hand.you will always get people looking for second hand stuffs. so i stopped. otherwise, i agree with you.

You can do the same thing with baby-toys. Get the used ones which are still in good condition, disinfect and use those:) specially somethings like wagons, excersaucers, bouncers, play stations etc.

hi sheeja, great ideas and tips !

i was thinking the same way,, but most of the friends whom i asked told me to get a good one, as and when kids grow they get adjusted or so called make themselves comfortable in the seat they were sitting in ! just like we buy a ggood feeding chair or a good stroller !! also, to mention that most of the expensive ones are washable, easy to clean or wipe and clean types,, and in the long run too, they dont spoil by their colour,,nowadyas, they have these clean wipes, sprays and great cleaners for babies too...
also the booster and all you talked about..convertibles is price you pay at one shot, than paying 50 - 60$ every time you will change the seat,,whch is to mention 3 times in different stages !! total is 150$ or around,,!! or prob with tax will add some more $$$$....
at one shot, we will b paying almost same or in the case of intera, its somewhere 130$....the safety1st intera (the ultimate in versatility, model no 22460WAL -- the actual name on my box --anitha please take a note of it,,today was bad day for me,,couldnt open ne sites ),,
it gives support, settings, extentions, latches and also the just detach one chord and you are done for watever settings you want !!
apart from all that,,the pain is actually when we find ourselves storing all those differnt stages of car seat either until our next baby arrives or we will sell in garage sell..i did that for my infant seat, pappasan, stationary center, and also bouncer and kick and play center ! after buying those all expensive stuffs,,after a month, nirja outgrown them !! wat to do,,cant store it until i plan anotherr one ! even though i plan prob by diwali or so,,by that time, i cant hang them around me.

just an opinion,,,open for more discussion,,i think, if we all talk openly, we will come/arrive to good conclusion,,and i hope that i buy a cheaper one,,will b saving 100$ :))

hi, i will not feel comfortable to return the goods after 2-3 months ! nirja played in them, exact 1 month, not more than that !
had it been a month, still would have been acceptable.

good math, hetal ! what is the resale of both of them?
hetal, you should have returned the stationery center and those expensive stuffs.toyrus takes them, back.
i would consider the resale value.i do not know the crowd over here, but most of us are here on h1 or greencards, which means most of our jobs are fluctuating and we can not control them, its the employer who does that.
so all my things will be either used nicely or their resale is good.
i would buy a seat which will be comfortble to my baby and when i sell it, there are people out looking for it and will pay me atleast 1/2 or 1/4th of the amount. or even after an extensive use of it-if i throw it i dont want to feel guilty about it.

thats is what i will count.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
