Hi all,

Hope all your little ones are doing great and u r having a wonderful time with them..isn't it amazing to be moms!!

I have few questions. Sanya's milk intake has reduced since she has started solid food. But I am thankful she enjoys solid food...infact now its difficult to eat in front of her as she keeps looking at u and then opens her mouth..so we give her something when we eat... Now she takes between 4-5 oz after every 4-5 hrs. Earlier she used to take 5 oz in 3 hrs. Sanya never went above 5 oz at a single time.I wanted to know is this quantity ok or the babies at this age ( 6 months) should be having more than 5 oz. Please advise.

Also i wanted to know if it is ok to warm the formula in microwave. What I do is that I warm the water in microve, shake it well and then add formula. Is it okk or should I use the safer method of heating in warm water ( microwave is easier and quicker though). During night I keep the warm water in thermas and use that water for prearing formula. What do you guys suggest.

Also for how long you keep the prepared formula...what I do is that if Sanya takes some formula and leaves some , then I discard this remaining formula within an hour( its nice if she takes it during this hour). But at times it happens that you prepare the formula thinking that the baby is hungry, but when I try to feed her she doesn't take it at all..what should I do in this case..should I discard the whole formula within an hour, or should I refrigerate it and feed her when she is ready...since she hasn't had the formula at all, I guess second option would be okk..waht do u say?

Please advise
Neeti

Hi Neeti,
Even my daughter doesn't drink more than 5ozs in any feed. I feed her solids twice a day.
I used to discard unused formula when she was younger but now I save it in the fridge. I wash the nipple before saving it. There is no problem so far.
I store warm water in a flask and use it to mix the formula. I guess microwaving is ok but I am not comfortable yet.

I do not think it is wise to refrigerate the formula in any case. What you are doing right now is good. Keep it for one hour and then discard it if they don't drink. I do the same too. I boil the water and fill it in a flask and keep refilling the flask everytime it gets over. I prepare the formula with the flask water and generally cool it to luke warm temperature and feed my daughter.
Hope this helps.
