Can anyone pls let me the know the proper treatment for KELOID Priyadarshani Jai Prakash replied. hi pooja,

Cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen followed by intralesional therapy with a combination of steroid & 5 flurouracil gives very good results. it arrests the growth of the keloid and flattens it. a tailored silastic gel sheet along with a pressure garment has shown to augment the benefits of the above treatment.


the number of sessions of cryotherapy is determined by the thickness of the lesion and the response to the treatment. laser ablation with a Co2 laser or radiosurgery is an alternative to cryotherapy. it could be combined with interferon injections,silastic gel sheet& pressure garment to achieve better results. multiple treatments with pulse dye laser is a fast emerging modality of treatment with promising results. more than one cycle is required depending on the thickness of the lesion. a regular and long term follow up with the treating dermatosurgeon is mandatory for the best result. there may be permanent hypo-pigmentation or depigmentation.

it is difficult to remove Keloid naturally though, you might try rubbing vitamin E oil on the scar a couple of times a day. it is believed that vitamin speeds up healing and reduces redness, while the rubbing action may smooth the lumpiness. even if the oil doesn't help much, it certainly won't hurt. i don't know of any special diet or medication for preventing them. it is best to consult a physician regarding this.
