Hi Anjali,

only the technician doing the ultrasound or the doc can know the sex of the child. If you are in US or UK, they will tell you. But if you are in india, it is illegal for the doc to tell u.

Dear,
I can very well relate to your curiosity ... first of all you as a layman can never ever know the gender of the baby by looking at the ultra sound, even if u do make a guess, it is always only a guessa and not an assurity. So, i don´ t think this will help satisfy our curiosity.
although i am from Dubai, i am currently with my parents in bombay and have done all my ultra sounds in bombay. Had i been in Gulf they wud have happily disclosed it to me but here in India it is extremly strict. Not only it is illegal for the radiologists to reveal the sex but also it is illegal to ask the dr. about it. One cud be fined 10000rs. and a jail as per law. U wud see very clear warnings in the Sonographists clinic clearly mentioning not to ask the same, not only that, for me every time before i enter the sonography room, they take my sign on the declaration form saying that i won´ t ask this to my dr.
In such a case if one do ask, and if the dr. is very rude, it can turn into embarrassing situation and even worst.
I wud say .... just be concerned about one important thing during ur scan .... ask dr. " if the baby is healthy and fine?" rest leave the surprise to unfold on its own.
Take care :)
