Name: Rohini

Hi,
How r u both?
What kind of diet r u both following?
There is no restriction on the kind of fruits that I can have so I include a banana, apple, strawberries and grapes randomly thr'out the day.I take only 1/3rd cup of rice once a day,3 rotis and 1 cup cooked vegetable for lunch/dinner.
Earlier my sugar levels after breakfast used to be very high.....but after changing the diet as suggested by my dietician I could bring them to normal range.I have 1 cup milk,1 slice of bread and an egg(only egg white) for breakfast everyday.Just wanted to share the information.
One question for u both.....do u include anything sweet in your diet once in a while....if so what?
do keep in touch....
take care,
Rohini

Hi Mom to be,

what you said is right. I too checked the carb values for dals. they have high carbs and also proteins. but if we limit them, how are we going to get carbs which are required for getting energy. How much Dal are you eating in chappatis. Please let me know. my dietician said, 1 cup dal, but i am not eating 1 cup. if we reduce dal, how are you getting protein, i mean what are you eating for protein. please do let me know.

thanks

Srija
My doctor has given this: We require 263 g of carbohydrates, 123g of proteins, 72 gms of fat, 4 veg, 4 fruit and 4 milk exchanges per day.
If you see the nutrition facts for one cup of milk (8 oz), it has 8 gm of proteins, also 11g of carbs. Apart from that, cheese has lots of proteins and only 1 g of carb. I drink milk, yogurt, eat cheese for lunch and dinner (sometimes for breakfast), almonds, walnuts and other nuts and dals. I eat 1 chapati and a handful of rice in the afternoon and only one chapati for dinner. Along with that whatever sambar or subji is made, I eat. Thats it. Whatever you eat has a mix of everything - proteins, carbs, fats. So don't be counting too much. My doctor has given me a sample menu for 2200 cal. I follow that but not that strictly. Even extra spoons of veg salad will increase my numbers. So I have suited it according to my numbers. She recommended to eat a fruit along with lunch. But I eat it 2 hours after lunch.
She has given dinner menu followed by an evening snack at 8 pm and then bedtime snack at 11 p.m. However, I have my dinner only at 8 pm. So the evening snack goes to 6:30 pm. During bedtime I don't feel that hungry. So for the bedtime snack (which includes 1 bread exchange), I don't have bread, just milk and almonds. She gave me an American diet (with nonveg) and its not possible to literally translate it to Indian diet (am a vegetarian). As long as I follow 4 fruits, 4 veg and 4 milk exchanges, its fine. A little bit of everything adds to a lot. Since my doc regularly monitors the baby's growth, I know that my baby is doing fine. In GD, the problem is overgrowth of baby. Whatever little glucose in our blood, reaches the baby fast. Thats why they advise us to exercise and use up that sugar. We should be careful about that. It creates problems to the baby when its born and after that. I don't want to scare you by saying all that my doctor said.
And remember, drink home made lemon juice with no sugar (sometimes instead of water) or eat grapefruit, because, to break down proteins and to absorb iron, we require vitamin C. Don't take any dairy product with iron, u shd take vit c after u eat things with iron. Ensure that you don't starve. Otherwise, ur body will start burning fat and then it will result in ketones which is bad. Drink lots of water to wash away the ketones.
This is what I have understood in the 40 days of my diet. I follow this, but I suggest you seek your doctor's advice on everything, because each individual differs and each doctor differs. I wouldn't recommend anyone to follow my way, so please don't do that. Just that I have shared with u what I do. Kindly talk to your doctor before u do anything.
Take care,
Mom to be.

Hi Rohini and Mom to be,
how you girls doing.
rohini, even i dont eat anything sweet or sweets.

fruits, also i am just eating plums now and then. may be i can eat others too. but no fruits in the morning.
my breakfast is also similar to yours, i cup milk, oatmeal or total cereal, cheese slice.

but lunch and dinner, two chapp, dal, cheese, Ragi malt, etc. But these days, I am getting concerned whether I am eating required amount of carbs/calories. my mom keeps saying i am not eating anything. that i need to eat for the baby to grow. but if i eat dal also (a lot- means normally what i used to eat), my numbers go up.

have to ask the doctor this weekend. also can the doctor tell how much the baby is weighing just my measuring fundus ht. some girls have been discussing in other threads about baby wt. not sure whether they were sent for an ultrasound.

ok take care and more updates later
p.s.Also how fast are you walking.

Hi srija
Just thought I should share this with you. Dals, though we say they have lot of proteins, they have lot of carbohydrates in them. Even for me, this happened initially. If you read the nutrition facts in the cover of any dal, you will understand. So everything in limit.
I hope I have understood it right. Correct me if I am wrong.
Bye for now
Take care
