Due Date Club October 2003:37 wk ultrasound...cord around the neck
2003-09-19
Name: Reena

Hi girls,

I'm very upset today...had my 37 weeks ultrasound yesterday and found out that the baby had the cord around the neck. Though the doc says that it is not a bad tangle and cud become ok before labour but its still worrisome. He told me that in such cases they keep monitoring the fetal heartbeat and if the fetus is found to be in stress then they perform an emergency c section.

I guess this is something like what Bar had for her second baby. Things have been going well for me till yesterday but now I'm living in the fear of going thru a c sec which I never wanted in the 1st place...

Have any of you experienced this yet??? If yes then what are your doc's comments???

Pls help..

Thanks,
Reena

I always wanted to let all of u know that though we wish for a normal delivery please be prepared for a c/sec.Reena don't worry it's nothing,it is a very simple surgery these days&recoverey is maximum a wk.You will do great, also cheer up coz c/sec mom's have less bleeding&no episiotomy. So there is an upside too.Remember if it is best for baby then just accept it calmly. My good wishes with you,pls don't get depressed/scared!

Hi
I have heard of this and its not uncommon.Don't worry ,if the doc feels a C-section is necessary then go with the doctor. And often in many cases C-section has to be performed in the last minute. So its not really in any of our hands even though most of us want a perfect vaginal delivery.

And in the end how does it matter how the baby gets here as long as the baby is normal and healthy. So don't worry ,trust ur doc

Hi Reena,

Please do not get too upset. Even if you do not really look forward to a c-section, do remember that our only real objective of a pregnancy is a healthy baby. The c-section will heal and the only thing you will really remember is you holding your precious one.
Let's all pray that the cord comes undone, looks like you are being carefully monitored and trust in God and the doctors.
Take care.

Suni
