I am from January board thou I am not a very active member reason being lil my monstrous angel. Well I have a concern, I am sure I will be enlightened by all your experienced responses. My daughter Hiya is 5.5 mos old. She started on solids couple of weeks back when her stool texture also changed. It is more of like play dough. Today she did stool that was very solidified. I wont say it was hard like stone but it was like proper solid strings like big kids do. I am just wondering if she is leading to constipation or is it normal to happen when they start on solids. Or do I need to change on her diet or something. Hiya is breastfed. I give her oatmeal cereal twice a day once with formula apart from other baby foods. Also she doesn’t seem to like cereal even mixing with the veggies. Is it important to feed the cereal?

sush replied. Same here tho' Tia poops more frequently...re: the straining my doc said that it is normal since they do not have gravity to aid them ..they do it all lying prone..so not to get upset over it !
I had started out w/rice(MOST EASILY DIGESTED & NON ALLERGENIC) & had contd. it only for almost 1 month..first only 1 tbs then 2 ,then 2 times..but only rice cereal & didn't mix anything else w/it..as per doc's recc since the digestive system needs time to adjust & so does the child & also in case of any allergies we can detect it faster..remember w/babies persistence pays..so keep your cool..try little,stop immediately when Hiya makes a face..try next time then..keep time & situ consistent..they learn better since they can predict what's happening instead of not knowing what Mamma is going to do now..plus this is the beginning of forming a regularity..

Thanks sush for your valuable inputs. I am trying to regularize Hiya on certain foods and timings. I moved her from rice to oatmeal as I came to know rice cereal leads to constipation. But nehow she doesnt seem to like any. I try to give her veggies in the morn then cereal by afternoon and a lil (an ounce) veggie snack by evening and by 8p.m she has her dinner, again cereal and off to sleep. She resists cereal a lot. I was wondering if I can skip on cereal. To make it worse now she can bubble out food fm her tiny mouth.

Thanks jayashree for sharing your experience. I spoke to my ped she says stools do change after having solids. That much i also understand. I was concerned abt was if it was leading to constipation. Didn’t get a satisfactory answer from them. Anyhow she has recc me to give her couple of ounces of water and juice. But once I was talking to someone in gerber they say they don’t recc juice till 6 mo so i guess I am gonna wait for juices till Hiya is 6 mo. And if she actually gets constipated then I plan to give her couple of ounces of water.

hi all
