Hi All,

I am having 2 endometriosis of around 3cm each in one of my ovary, my doctor has recommended me laproscopy for its removal. I wanted to know

1.If the laproscopy surgery is safe?
2.I plan to get it done by Dr Praveena Shenoy at Manipal Bangalore, is she good in doing such surgery?

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure wherein tiny incisions are made thru the abdomen and an endoscope put in for appropriate intervention. The surgery itself is quite safe with less than the usual risks associated with any other surgery. You will be given a general anesthetic that will put you to sleep for a couple of hours maybe more.. After you recover you may feel some pain and also nausea and vomiting depending on how well you can tolerate the anesthesia (though these days a number of anesthetics are available that have minimal side effects.. do ask your doctor about them)
You may be required to stay in the hospital for a day or even less, depending on your recovery..during this time you will be given IV antibiotics.. and you will have to continue taking antibiotics for a week or so after you go home. YOu may be called back after a wekk for the removela of stitches/ staples (or may not be if dissolvable stitches are used)
There is pain that lasts usually for a and bleeding that can continue upto a week.. this is nothing to worry about.. your doctor will explain all the details of the procedure to you.
I' m not aware of Dr Praveena Shenoy at Manipal.. though I' ve heard that Dr Sita Rajan at Mallya' s good...Cannopt advise you well on this..
