Due Date Club July 2005:Stranger Anxiety ???

Hi All

2 weeks back, we had been my friend’s place, and there my daughter, Suhani cried a lot. I thought it was just becoz she saw everything new around her and even noise level was higher when we got in there ( like saying hi etc. and laughing n all ).

Same thing was repeated the last week, when we had been to hospital for her shots. She cried, rather screamed a lot for almost 20 minutes when she saw pediatrician. She was all okay when pediatrician left and even when nurse gave her shots.

Her pediatrician said after 6 months children may have stranger anxiety. Could anyone please suggest how to overcome this problem? She rarely cries ; she behaves very normally like “very good girl” when we go for walk or to malls and even when people are around.

I am getting more and more worried everyday because I am planning to put Suhani in daycare after few days, and looking at this anxiety problem I don’t know how will she manage to stay there? If same thing happens in daycares, wont they keep her in daycare?

Please let me know your if have any idea or facing similar problems.

Thanks,
Sucheta.

Dear Suchi,
this is a very common problem and nothing to get worried about. your girl might overcome soon or take a few months. I experienced this with Advait, especially with Pediatricians office. And I think he would start crying the moment we took him in cabin and a nurse or Dr. with lab coat. He was all fine outside the room like in waiting lounge and other places.
just be around her when you are at new place. Once she is 7months or so then you can start telling this new person is friend and she can shake their hands, that's the way the fear goes away.
This anxiety may return around 1 year and will subside. it's part of development and you should feel comfortable about that.

Hi Suchie
This is very normal my son was doing this when he was 3 months old and it lasted up until he was like 5 months. She feels secure with her parents i think best for you is to expose her too more people and maybe she will do this for awhile ab d forget in her own time

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
