Due Date Club August 2007:anomaly scan

Can someone tell me what is anomaly scan / why is it done and in which week shoud I get it done , because my doctor has not discussed this with me and pls tell me how much important is it to get ihe scan done.
I am worried as this is my 27th week and this is a new term which I have just come across.

Thanks a lot for this information , I guess that the scan must have been done on time as Meghnah said .but its just that I have come accross this term recently so I got a little worried, I will talk to my doc on monday to confirm this.

I' m megs 4m september due date board.Well the name Anamoly scan seems very complicated,but its nothing but a scan,where in the doctor measures n checks the baby 4m top to toe.He finds out whether the baby' s all organs r formed n r functioning or not?Its the major scan of our whole pregnancy,(its the longest scan too)n normally its done between ur 20-24thw eek..for me it was done at 19th week,but anyways all my baby' s organs were formed by then.I' m sure evn ur doc wud have had done this scan to u...Just that u didnt know that it was called \" ANAMOLY SCAN\" ...

I had spoken to my doc, according to her:
Anomaly scan is done after 20-21st week of pregnancy. This is done to check weather all the organs of the baby are working properly. This is basically to know that the baby is working fine and there is no anomaly in it.
For you I believe it is late and u should consult your gyno on this.

I forgot 2 mention one point,As they check the baby 4m top to toe,they also check n see whether there r any abnormalities which they can figure out(like cleft palette,hole in the heart..blah blah)..As KT said is basically done 2 see whether there is any anamoly or not...

Hi, I am currently in my 12th week and my doc has said that I can do 3D scan after 15 weeks.. is that the same as anomaly scan... Also I want to know, god forbid if there is some abnormality with the baby, what is the solution? please respond....
