Hope your appointment went off well. Any good news about effacement and dilation?
How was your ultrasound? What was your little bean doing? Hope you are at peace about the fundal height.

Simmi replied. Hi Avi, Vidhya and Arshiya. Sorry to hear about the appointment confusion. These docs deal with so many pregnant women in a day that sometimes they come across very crude and matter of fact. Where we are looking for reassurances. Specially the hospital staff. Even here in UK, the story is the same. I went to the hospital few times for my groin issue, which is some pelvic dsyfuntion problem and the doc there completely blanked me out by saying it is normal. I even took the paperwork from the internet stating that what I am feeling and what it is, she denied that being the case. Result, I wasted few weeks getting bad to worse. Then I decided to go for my following appointments to my local surgery with my GP, she instantly acknowledged the problem and referred to another hospital for hydrotherapy. Sweet of her but it was too late for the treatment since now it will induce labour! But since then I have made my mind up, I will go to the surgery only until I go in to labour, not bothering to go to the hospital. I would be going weekly too from now on.
Though no internal exam will be done to my knowledge, so don't worry about that one Avi. However, do call up and ask if you can see a doc every week, and make an appointment. Seeing that you are home, u can make these appointments and have reassurance too.
Avi, I'm sure like Arshiya said, knowing that there was some infection, doctors will take extra care, though I doubt it would still be there. Keep drinking loads of water and cranberry juice and it should help clear ur system further.
Good luck.

Arshiya replied. Hey Avi,
Sorry to hear about GBS, but it won't hurt you or your baby since they know it already, and that's the advantage.
Just like your doc said, my doc also gave me looooong explanation on dilation and effacement, which I already knew and showed me the pictures of it also.
Also, she gave me a big lecture on when to call (evenif it's midnight) and go to the hospital. Ofcouse, I was gonna do that evenif she didn't tell me that.
One good thing that your baby's fundal height is fine. Also, she should be asking to see you in every week right? I wonder why won't she do any internal till 39th week?
Vindhya,
Same here, I have started hating them now. Specially, when they are weekly now. I go there and sit like a bum for an hr till doc arrives and she sees me for 10 mins and vanishes.
I would also want this appt. to be over now. Don't worry we are all getting there.
Take care

Avi replied. Hey Vindhya, Just got back from the appointment...thanks for asking about it....really sweet of you...
First, she does the swab for GBS - which I already had in my urine in my first trimester - so will have to be on antibiotics during labor - even if this one comes back negative (and there is no chance for it coming back negative)...
Then she does an internal and tells me that the cervix is still thick.. I ask her if there was any effacement or dilation and she gives me a long explanation of what effacement and dilation are...(the info I didn't need), then she says that she wont do an ultrasound cause she could feel the baby's head when she did the internal....(meaning its already down)..
I ask her about how long she thinks I have before the baby is out, now that she's checked the cervix and she says \";about a month or so but if you feel any contractions you should go to the hospital\";.. I know that already, didn't need her to tell me...
Then she says, that she will not be doing anymore internals till the 39th week..
She checks the fundal height and tells me that it is fine .......so got one not-so confusing piece of information out of the whole appoinment...
She sends me off asking me to come back in 2 weeks.....
So didn't get to see the bean, didn't get any clear info about the state of the cervix, Atleast...I am a bit relieved about the fundal height.......
Soon you will feel the relief too... so do try and not get too stressed about it and eat well.....everything will turn out just fine...

I thought she would ask me to come in every week too.. but she asked me to come back in 2 weeks...
She said that she wont do any internals till the 39th week cause according to her, once I go to the hospital to deliver everyone/anyone will check me way too many times... and so she is sparing me from all the discomfort... beats me..
Yeah, the explanations, with demonstrations are indeed painful and its getting hard to pretend like I am interested in what she is saying.. :)

Name: Avi Subject: frustrating indeed........
GBS, is a check for StrepB bacteria colonies in our Vagina/Rectum.. It usually doesn't cause us any harm but can be harmful to the baby when he/she passes through the birthcanal during labor (can cause pnuemonia, meningitis etc).. so when found in the vagina, they administer antibiotics during infection to make sure the baby doesn't get infected with it....
so yeah, it was quite stressful when they found it in my urine (cause it is more serious/risky when found in the urine).. All we can do is take all the precautions and hope everything turns out fine... :)
u should have seen my face when she was giving me a detailed description about something I already have lots of info about... I wanted to tap her on her head and say "HELLO, that's not what I asked"... :)
I had no idea that you are already being made to go through the non stress tests..I am sure it must be really frustrating...and also when the baby moves, they might have to change the position of the monitor again...Will they do keep doing them till the 40th week or will it end soon...the good thing is that you will get to hear the little pea's heartbeat for an hour...I am sure after hearing it for an hour or more, you will keep hearing it even after the machine is off :)
and no you dont bore me at all.... I am glad you find us worthy of sharing your info with us....
and yes, hallelujah, I cant wait for November either....I hope our babies get through the next few weeks safe and sound and come out so that we can start worrying about other things :)..

Hi Avi,
Glad to see you back from the appointment. Congrats on the fundal height measurement. What a relief!
First of all, did she say no internal exam till 39th week! I guess, it's better to go directly to the hospital once you get the contractions. We just have to do what the doctor says.
I have no idea what GBS is about. My doctor said she will do it in my next appointment. Sorry to hear about you being positive for it. I am sure with the antibiotics, you'll be just fine.
Regarding cervix dilation or effacement, I guess it differs. For some it takes only a few hours to dilate from 0 to 10 before labor begins.
As for the appointments, I have started hating them. They take nearly 30 minutes to set up the NST machine, and 30 mintues to search for the heart beat. They fix it all and leave. Finally the doctor comes back after an hour or so (or whenever she is free). I always feel like pulling those things apart and run away from there. Once this NST hungama is over, back to that fundal height thing. Atleast for these appointments sake I want November to be here asap. I am boring you again with my own details.
It was funny to read that they say whatever we already know.

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a Diaper Service Provider in Bangalore? They generally provide cloth diapers and replace them with a new set every 2-3 days.
