Due Date Club October 2003:Had U/S yesterday

Hi Girls,

I have some thing nice to share with you today. In my last doctor visit my fundal height was measuring 3 cm more, so I had an Ultra sound yesterday (didnot expect another U/S). It was so nice to see the baby inside. Not like before. Last U/S was in 21st week and at that time he was all with bones. Now he really looks like a baby. We were able to clearly see his nose, lips, his face, hands. Most interesting thing, he was sucking his thumb for a while and then started yawning. Also, he is in head down position. So, enjoyed watching him do all these stuff. It is tooooo good to see him.

Sad part is they didnot tell me why I am measuring more. Doctor will analyze the report and will let me know in the next appointment itseems. Hope everything is alright. Radiologist was guessing that my baby is 5+ lbs now. I feel this is average. What do you girls think ? Is 5+ lbs more for 33 weeks ?? Please let me know. My next doc visit is scheduled on 17th. So, till then I will have to wait .

Anu.

Hi Anu
That must be a great feeling to see ur baby now..and its a relief too knowing baby is fine.Did u get added video and photographs of u/s too?
From the books i read they say baby will be 3-4 pounds. I think if u are 5+ it should be ok..atleast u know its healthy. Don't know if a bit over the limit is a problem, i would worry if the baby was underweight. The only problem that could occur is if baby is a bigger at end of 9 months, doctors would think of delivery options, have still heard many having normal delivery with a 9pound baby too..we had a talk of having big babies, becasue when u have high sugar, they say babies get much bigger than normal it just ends in having a c-section..if i were u, i would just relax knowing my baby is healthy..and enjoy the moment. LAter on u can follow the doctors instructions..till then don't worry..relax ,its such a load off of you when u know ur baby is healthy..I am sure the last few weeks will also go smoothly since u cannot do anything about it don't get stressed out..have faith in God.

Hi Anu

I have always measured 2-3 cms more in my fundal height .My doctor didn't seem concerned and said +- 3cms from the weeks is normal.

The fundal height is not the 100% accurate way to measure the baby's growth.It just gives a rough estimate.

Found this on the net:-
\";Relying on fundal height as above must take into account explainable discrepancies. For instance, a baby who has \";dropped\"; between the last visit and the current one may show a fundal height less than last visit! A simple pelvic exam can determine the descent of the baby's head into the maternal pelvis to explain this. If a baby's turned sideways, as often occurs in mid-pregnancy, the fundal height can be unusually short for what's expected, because the greatest dimension lies across the horizontal. A breech baby, usually sitting up high in the uterus, will yield an unusually large fundal height. These are all circumstances that can defuse concerns over abnormal fundal heights. So it's obvious that it would not be a good idea to revise a due date based on a fundal height. \";

Hope it helps.For me my doctor said it was because of the position of my breech baby.She didn't do a US though.
Anyway ask ur doctor if she has any other reasons.
