Due Date Club July 2005:Arjun's update

Hi Everyone,
Here is Arjun's update. I am typing while pumping at work so pardon the spell/case mistakes.
Arjun completed his 6 months on 8th of Jan and he had his 6 months appointment on 12th. He weighed 17.5 lbs and 27 inches in height. He got fever afterwards so I stayed with him at home for couple of days. About his night wakings his dr suggested that he should learn that night is not for eating.

We have started sleep training him. He goes to sleep in his crib without fuss but wakes up twice. Yesterday We let him cry when he woke up at 12 without the feed as per his ped's advice. He finally settled himself after 45 mins of crying and we felt miserable but then woke up at 4 then I fed him and he slept until 8 the next day. Lets see how it goes today. I would like to know any suggestion on sleep training. Has any of you started doing that?

When I told his ped that I have started one time rice cereal feed for Arjun as he was giving cues, he said that I did the right thing. He suggested to start other foods gradually, veggies, fruits etc. So I have introduced oat cereal instead of rice in afternoons and 3 days after that gave him squash which he took well. I am planning to go back and forth between rice and oat cereal for lunch and continue veggies at night. Planning to introduce third solid feed once he is 7 months old.
Arjun is not taking bottles at all nowadays, we all tried and gave up and his nanny gives him couple of ounces of formula from sippy cup every now and then as he doesn't drink much from sipper at one time. He is very interested in sppon and sipper though:). We are not giving him expresssed breast milk during day-time as if he doesn't take all, it gets wasted which I don't like. So I breast feed him at 5pm and then before his bed-time. Yesterday I also mix some oat cereal very small amount in 5 ounces of breast milk so that he would take it and it worked:)

I am gradually going to wean him off and be done with breast feeding by the time he turns one. I am very busy at work and that feels like the right thing to do for me.

On other fronts, he sits well with support and can sit without support for 10 secs not more than that. He is trying to crawl though. we have seen him moving forward couple of times but he is not at ease to move very far. Rolling over all over the place ofcourse. Making sounds da da, nana, ma ma , enga, pinga and what not. At one point he said mamma:)

What else? we got him waitlisted for 4 good day-cares close to my work-place and all of them have 6-12 months waiting list. We are planning to send him to a day-care from this September.

Very busy at work and at home so forgive me if I don't write for long time from now onwards.

Keep sharing pictures and updates:)

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

HI Gayathri,

I used the puzzles, the wooden blocks for alphabets and numbers.... - Sheetal [View Message]
try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
