hi,

i personally have a query. though i'm not a mother yet, i'd like to know how this can be avoided just in case mine is the case of my maid's:

my maid who has a 9 year old son and a 4 year old daughter, talks to about her problems and i give her a counsel upto my understaanding. and i also sometimes tell her my problems. today she was talking to me about her son. her son can't sleep without carassing her breast(still pesters her for suckling her breast at night). she does not let him touch and he stays wide awake all night, complaining he is unable to sleep. taking pity on him, she lets him touch her, if not suckle. at the most, if everything is denied, he atleast needs her hand or leg put on him, so that he can sleep. she says this is alright with her, but suckling and touching has made it a little difficult for her, as he is quite a grown up kid for that. and she does not know what to do, as her husband advises her neither to beat him nor scold him in that regard. when told politely, he accepts, but later, he is back with it. not only that, when he sees her after school, or if he has come back from play or going for play, when he wont be around for a couple of minutes or when she is not around, he carasses her breast for a few second and runs away for play or seeks for her and does the same. despite her warning, he does it and has a very sweet nack. her sterness doesnt make much of a difference. when she sits down, wherever he is, he comes and hugs her by sitting on her lap and places his head on her breasts and pushes at them. she is worried because he does that in public as well.

although i know both the mother and son are unknowingly the victims of Oedipus Rex, i'm not sure how to give her a practical solution. and i am equally worried- what if my son also does so? how can one discourage and make the child forget what he does?
