Baby Food

We usually follow ayurveda. I thought of sharing the recipe of porridge that I give to Nihar. This was recommended by his ayurvedic doc.

2 cups wheat
1 cup moong dal
1/4 cup urad dal
1 cup peanuts



Roast everything, grind it to fine powder and keep it in an airtight bottle.
Whenever you want to feed, boil it with water and milk (cerelac consistency). Add little jaggery and make sure that it won' t be sweeter than breast milk.
Add a pinch of dry ginger powder to help the digestion.


I use cow milk. But I add water to the porridge, so that should be ok. Also, generally the allopath doc recommends not to use sugar so that the babies do not develop sweet tooth. But if the porridge is not sweeter than the breast milk it won' t harm.

Initially I started with 1 spoon. The porridge was watery. Slowly I' m making it thicker and increasing the quantity.

After feeding porridge I give him water. I boil the water with a pinch of ajwain and pinch of dil seeds.

Apart from this I give him carrot soup or steamed mashed apple. He does not like apple. So I stopped giving him that for the time being.
