Due Date Club October 2005:ear pearcing
2006-05-19
Name: MD

I took appointment for ear pearcing for swathi at her Ped. on sep 8th. Doc suggested to apply EMLA cream ( anesthetic cream, available on prescription only) on both side of her ears before 1 hour of appointment. It seems this will nump the area and so they don't know the pain when pearced. Has anyone on this board got your lil ones ears pierced? did any one used EMLA cream? did it help?

In fact, Swathi's doc. adviced to use this cream even for shots she gets every other month. But, I was skeptical to use it as I don't want to use any medications unnecessarily and decided not to use it. Swathi is just doing fine with her shots and she just cries for a min. and she is normal after that.
But now again I am in dilemma, as this time it is not just the shots.
Please let me know your experiences with earpiercing and advice on using this cream.

Thanks and love to all lil ones and moms too:-)
MD.

MD - Though i have a boy but still i know from my friends who got it done at 4/5 months, they say earlier the better as the spots u do is much softer... Haven't heard about medication... but if doc is suggesting then their is no harm applying it. Anyway you are going to apply one time so I would definitely go for it!

love to Swathi

Hi
I had Dheeksha's ear pierced when she was 3 months.. We did not use any cream but we had her ears pierced at the mall... She did cry for a few mins but otherwise she did fine... As you said it is better to avoid unnecessary medications on the baby.. but if it numbs the area then it is worth applying the cream...
Good luck on ear piercing...
luv to swathi
