Hi all,
I have a option to decide b/w AFP and nuchal transulency testing. Which one is best?
Please pour your suggestions. I need to tell my Dr tomorrow.

Hey,

Even I live in CA and my doc suggested to go for both.

I think you should go for Nuchal as that is more accurate and they also take your blood test for down syndrome.

AFP comes false positive lots of time and then you will have to go for Amniocenthesis (which I would avoid since your are under 35)

Hi,

I just had my Nuchal yesterday and I am going for my AFP next month.

This are both different tests. Nuchal is done for the measurement of Neck and and the space between that. Also, its done for blood flow to liver. And, third, they check the Tibia or Fumor (forgot) measurements.

AFP is for Spinal Bifida.

Hope this is clear. Also, Nuchal is more accurate and give false positive 2.5% of the time.

thanks for your reply. But in my hospital they said they are going offer either AFP or nuchal not both. How did u get these 2 tests? I live in california. and iam 28 years so iam opting for AFP. Do you think my choice is correct..
