Hi all,
I delivered a beautiful girl on July 19th.It was a normal delivery.
Sudha,I was reading all the mssgs today & u mentioned abt pumping milk by hand. How do you do that? How long can we store the breastmilk in bottle before feeding?I usually feed directly. Now I've been trying to feed her from bottle but she refuses to drink.WHich brand bottles/nipples do u all use?My ped recommended playtex nurser but i haven't tried that yet.
Regards,
C

Hi Chaitra,
Sorry for late reply, we were having off for 2 days. Expressing milk by hand is very simple process in the beginning when there was enough milk but now If I have to do it takes time as I feel milk supply has reduced a bit. I simply press it with hand in different angles and take out milk. Normally at one time my baby have milk from one breast only and in case If I have to go somewhere what I do, just after BF, I express milk and found it effective. YOu can use express milk for 4-6hrs depend on weather condition. I used to express milk directly into bottle but you can express in some bowl and later on pour into bottle. Sorry I don't remember brand name of bottle as I bought it before delivery and was not much aware about it. Only thing I told shopkeeper to give me best quality available, on bottle its mentioned 'Keaidebiddy. I will check the brand name and let you know.
I have Pegeon bottle as well and after reading details about nipple found that there is three kind of whole comes into nipple, make sure when you are taking nipple whole is medium as small one is not sufficient for baby who suck it fast.

Hi Chaitra,
You can keep expressed milk at room temperature for 3 hours. Afterwards antibodies starts getting destroyed. When you go outside, keep a cooler bag with you with an icepack or ice bottle and carry the expressed milk bottles in that bag. Its better to get an insulated bag to have an ice pack/bottle with the milk to avoid temperature fluctulations. That way it will last 8-10 hours.
Hope, this helps.

Also to warm it, stop at any gas station and use the hot tap water.

Hi Chaitra,

My son Aryan is now 13weeks old i introduced the bottle just a couple of weeks back . He took to it without any fuss i'm using the playtex nurser which i found was great as it eliminates all possiblities of sucking air which means less gas spitting up and colic . u have to purchase the soft liners separately. U could also research on the web there are a few other brands and makes maybe u will find them to suit ur needs better.

I've been manually expressing .I'm attaching two great links which has illustrations as well making it easy to understand.

http(:)//www(.)medela(.)com/NewFiles/manualexpres(.)html
U can store ur breastmilk for 5 to 7 days in the refrigerator if u store it in the freezer it stays good for around 6months.

Hope this helps.
regards,
kiran

hi there,
thanks Kiran..i have another doubt .If you have to go out & if u r planning to bottlefeed the expressed milk, what do u do? How do u guyz manage to do that where u can't refrigerate & warm the milk.Pardon my ignorance but I was under the impression that we must not keep the breastmilk outside for long.
thanks

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
