Hi Archie,
Read your message in response to Arjun's update. Pardon my poor English but I donno what drulling means.
Also wanted to clarify what you have written to understand it better. I never fed Arjun while I am lying down or in sleep if thats what you mean. I have a feeding pillow
(boppy) for breastfeeding and I always got up to feed him in a sitting position on a computer chair if thats what you meant. If you meant that I shouldn't feed Arjun while he is sleeping, I have done that occassionally, two/three times so far when I thought that he didn't get enough during the day-time. But Archie, when I breastfeed him while he is awake, after sometime he closes his eyes and continue feeding, I don't know whether he falls asleep or just closes the eyes. The moment I dislatch him he wakes up and cries.
Please clarify what you meant by not feeding while sleeping.
I have been cleaning his mouth and neck everytime he spits with a dry wash cloth. Let me know if thats fine or I need to clean it with a wet one. I haven't noticed any signs of skin rashes so far on his neck.
Also he is a big fan of sucking. You told me to look for signs and I have been doing that for last three months with no luck. Even if he is satisfied, he would demand more feed. I discussed this with his doctor and he said with expressed milk, I shouldn't give him more than 4oz at a time. So I started doing that but once he is done, he cries for more milk, so I give him paifier to suck, after a min he settles down and with burp throws away the pacifier. He had been a wet burper so far.
Also as his day time sleep is reduced, I have started giving him bath an hour after I feed him and you know it worked, he doesn't cry afterwards while I put his clothes on and comb his hair rather he smiles, plays for a while, I feed him a little 1 oz and then he falls asleep.
He is one of those babies who enjoys bathing. I should rather say he is kind of amazed by it. His bath tub has a shower attached but I haven't used it on him.
Also I was wondering what benefits I can get while giving him Formula feeds. I have offered him Formula only twice so far, once when he got Jaundiced and second time when I got my wisdom tooth extracted. He took it without fuss but other than that I didn't feel the need to do so. Please advise, if I should replace one exprssed milk feed with Formula.

Thanks a lot
Arti

Dear Aarti,
I got worried about that word only after one day of my message to you.
It should be Drooling.
No, drooling is not what you are wondering about. What I meant is this:
when you feed while in sleeping position baby can drink and some milk will ooze out (drool) and that milk is more likely to get in to ear as your baby is on sideways position. This milk can be a source of infection and baby can catch some bacterial ear infection. If remains un-noticed can harm baby hear function in some ways.

you are doing fine and nothing is to be worried about.

at this age arjun would need about 4 oz milk for say every 3 hours. I fed advait maximum of 6 ouncez when he was 3.5 months and he would be quiet for about 5 hours no need to worry for feeding. Each baby is different.

I think he closes eyes and continue latching is normal and means he is enjoying his food and nothign to be concerned about unless you know for sure he is in sleep, you can try to remove nipple and it will come off easily if he is in sleep otherwise he will suckle more with intensity if you try to take out nipple.

blotting with dry cloth is fine, no need to go for wet although it's good because it will avoid milk smell from his face. But if he is sleepy then dry cloth is OK and if he is active then try with wet cloth and blot after that with dry one.

reduced day time sleep is fine with active baby don't worry about it. I have heard people complainign about loosing thier night sleep because their babies kept them awake all night, you are lucky in that manner.

So drooling is basically secreting extra milk from mouth like saliva:)

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
