Breastfeeding:What is the right age to stop brest feeding

Dear All, Plz suggest me, my son is now 18 month old and now i want to stop breastfeeding t him. Is it the right age? He shows eagerness for brestfeed and denies any other food or milk and my milk is not enough for him now.

hi all,

i am mum to a 15 mth old baby boy, even i would like to stop breastfeeding but i think my son is not ready for that, he doesnt eat properly & at times dependant on my milk pls help

hi kavita,
the best time to stop breast feed is after 1 year. u can continue after that too but it is not enough for the baby and it is only meant as a dessert.
i went to a lactation aid when my daugther was born and she advised me to feed her till one year than stop.
lots of mothers feed there babys till 2,
they don' t realise that milk flow is only good in the began of 6 months and after that the milk becomes thinner.
so you can stop feeding him and don' t just STOP right away. if u feed him twice a day do it once.

Stop it now, as it will be difficult now itself. I had tough time to stop for my son, with great difficulty i stopped when he was around 20 months, infact he used to need it only for going to sleep.
