Due Date Club October 2003:Still GT test result high!!
2003-08-08
Name: nikki

Hi all,
Today I came to know about my result of 3 hr. GT test.It is very high 200 .Do you know what is normal rate???I was so sad that I forget to ask this from my doc..She said it is very high.So now I have to go for diet counselling and later for insulin injections :(
I am so worried ..and started crying as soon as I told my huby.My doc . said that it is not because of diet (as i not consuming too much sugar) ,it is my body is producing too much of glucose..
I am missing my mom so much today..I don't know what will happen in future....

Take care,
nikki

Nikki
Dont worry abt the delivery. Irrespective of whether u have GD or not, Csec may happen to anyone.
As Nick mentioned its gotto do with the babies position.
I had frends who had lot of cuts (episotomy) in normal deliv and so they told me that Csec is not too bad compared to this.
I am open to it, coz I may have a higher chances of having a csec.
Dont worry, jus focus on ur diet now.
GLuck.

Nikki,
I know its really upsetting . But dont worry . If you worry , it will upset the baby also. Just be positive. As Bar said, just 10 more weeks to go, they will just fly, u have to control only for 2 months, so be cheerful and go to the dietician.

I am happy to tell u that I cleared the 3 hr test......

Wish You ALl the very best!!!!

thank you so much girls for all your support...

I will be going to meet the nutritionist on monday .Let's see what happens.I read on website if a pregnant lady has GD then usually she has to go for c-section..
I am so worried about it.But all need is my baby should be healthy no matter I go for c-section.

Hope everything goes fine.

Hey Nikki, This is Radhika again from the Nov board. I talked to my Doc about the C-Section, and she said that about 70% of women with GD have normal vaginal deliveries. The Doc will keep you under strict supervision to make sure that the baby doesnt grow too big.

Take care!!!

Hi Nikki
Don't worry ..Without GD also many women have to go in for C-section.
My baby is in the breech position and my doctor said that if it doesn't turn by 34th week then I shall have a C-section.
I am 31 weeks 6 days and I still know that my baby is breech from the movements .So now there is very few chance of the baby turning ,so I am prepared to go in for C-section.

I was also upset initially but I thought what the heck ,as long as the baby is healthy and normal how does it matter how it got here .
And in the end all the pain is worth it
So be happy and don't worry.

Nikki,
No doubt ur worried now. But just another 10 weeks or so right.. So cheer up. Yes its not coz of ur diet, its the body's capacity to control the sugar level. Many of my frends has GD in their preg and diet and exercise is what they did and had absolutely perfect healthy babies. Pray to God and cheer up. As Radhika mentioned we shld be happy that we dont have bedrest and other complications, this is definitely controllable with diet. So cheer up and make ur baby happy :)
God will take care of rest.

Nikki,

Hi! I am from the Nov board and am in the same boat as you. In fact the test results of my 1 hr GTT were so high (183) the Doc didnt want me to go back for the 3 hr one. I was as upset as you are (and still am in certain ways).

A couple of things you should take care of immediately:
1, Take an appointment with the nutritionist right away. (Am not sure how your insurance works but your Doc will probably recommend you to a GD specialist as well).

2, Follow the diet to the T, and dont forget the exercises they recommend. You may not need insulin shots if diet and exercise controls your glucose level.

3, http://www.healthubs(.)com/gestational/
This is a great website with a lot of information about gestational diabetes.

4, It really isnt the end of the world. I spoke to a bunch of other women who went through the same during their pregnancies, and all of them have healthy babies now.

Feel free to write to me incase you would like to chat or something. radhikaaggarwal@hotmail

Good luck and keep your chin up!!

Radhika

Nikki, please don't worry...I know it hurts when u hear such results and it is natural. I have gone thru all this emotional ups and downs with my friend, diet but once u accept its fine and do the best u can it will be fine. She has a healthy baby though she did have to be a bit more careful than normal pregnancies. This is a problem we can take care of, though u need to control ur urge to eat some food items and control how much u eat. I know of friends who have had 9 motnhs of bedrest, premature deliveries, etc during pregnancies and that is much more of a torture .
I too have my 3 hour test in the weekend, am also worried, prepared for the worst too, praying for the best.
Please be strong and look at the brighter side. Its only another 2-2 1/2 months and u will have a healthy baby for the rest of ur life..take it as a daily routine, u will i assure u get used to it and after the initial hesitation u will be fine, moreover ur sugar level drops on the diet in a week....so it takes care of ur health and baby..
I know i am going to be very disappointed if i fail the test too...
its natural, we will be worried about our child.
Try to be cheerful...u will be fine I assure you. as for the normal rates that u asked for -
For a 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test used to screen for gestational diabetes, normal blood values are:
fasting: less than 95 mg/dL
1 hour: less than 180 mg/dL
2 hour: less than 155 mg/dL
3 hour: less than 140 mg/dL
as per one on medlineplus site..some use stricter rules.
Take care. Thankfully this is one thing we can manage ourselves..and is in our hands. Keep chatting to the friends in this forum, I am sure all will help u out.
Take care..trust in God and do the best u can, everything will be fine.
Bye
Radhika

Hi Nikki
Don't worry.Just control ur diet and everything will be fine. And as ur doc said ,eating sweets has nothing to do with GD,it is more hereditary and ur body is producing glucose. And GD goes away as soon as the baby is born.
And besides just follow a diet and it will be fine.I have seen other women with GD and they all had healthy babies.
So don't worry, all you need to do is to follow a diet and monitor ur glucose levels.

And I know its easier said that done, but don't be upset.
We all are here for you.
