hi all moms on board

i just wanted to ask moms on this board how often ur babies
feed.abhijith is quite erratic in this regard.i breastfeed himand he
feeds only for 10 mins and doses off.any amount of waking him up and
forcing him will not make him open his mouth.in between feeds also
there is a gap of 4-5 hours and he cries very little.his temp is
normal though and he is gaining weight properly.
lactation consultant and pediatrician told that he should feed every
2-3 hours or else babies go into hypoglycemia,specially when they r
below 6lbs(which abhi is).so i get worried sometimes.my mother in
law says not to go by the rule and everything is fine as long as he
is gaining weight.i am slightly confused and want to know wether
anyone else is facing this problem or would like to suggest anything.

Tina replied. i feed seb every 2-3 hours. during day time try to keep the baby more stimulated with lot of activities like talking to him,playing with him etc. seb was not sleeping during night times before. nowadays he is sleeping more at night times. keeping him active during day time helped. feed him at day time between 2-3 hrs. if he sleeps off, i try to wake him up by tickling his legs and talking to him.

jenn replied. in the morning try wwwaking abhijith at least in 3 hours for feeding and feed him atleast 20 min . try to wake him up while feeding by stimulating him, either by taking of his clothes so he doesnt feel cozy to sleep, or talking to him or simply distracting him untill he had for 20 min. .at nights keep an alarm for every 3 hours to make sure you feed him,thats what i do
