hi, sorry, since I'm first time mom, I have these weird qtions. Is episistomy same as stitches? Are stitches normal for a normal/viginal delivery?

sree bhargavi replied. episiotomy and stitches are not same.episiotomy is the cut made in the vaginal area to facilitate easy delivery of baby without stressing the baby much.it is stitched up after delivery.
some doctors make an episiotomy while others dont.during the process of delivery the vagina tears anyway and needs to be stitched up.it is just that tears are irregular and an episiotomy is straight and easy to sew.it depends on doc.someone told me u can discuss with ur doc if u want episiotomy done.
my doc did not do episiotomy.i had 2 second degree tears which she stitched up.

According to the info I got,doctor might have to cut our vaginal portion for making the delivery easy.and this is episiotomy.If they dont do this,we might tear naturally and some think that cutting is easier to do tthe stitches and hence for further healing.Take care....anu. Episitomy is nothing but making more path while vaginal birth. Not that every vaginal birth will have Episitomy to be performed. The decision is made based on your progress while delivery.
These are stitches and nonthing to
worry about them.
