hi all and wish you a happy, healthy and a prosperous 2006!!

HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MOMMIES AND ALL THE BEST TO THOSE WHO R WAITING!!

at my place i am supposed to b on complete rest- no tv no computers so i havent been logging on.besides time seems to be always less with the little one around !!

here goes the STORY....

let me start a little ealier.i cudnt sleep properly almost for almost a week b4- 3-4 hrs max.on 25th sunday, i felt tht the movments were considerably less- almost none so i rushed to the doc 1st thing monday morning. she ordered for a u/s, nst doppler color.tht thankfully was normal.but i clearly remember the radiologist's words - \"; ma'am, ur time is up \"; acc to him, the baby was ready.but it dint sort of strike me tht it he wud come so early cos i was only 35 weeks 2 days then.

then next day, tuesday, i wommitted-. probably my system was clearing up but i was blissfully ignorant:)

on wednesday,Dec 28th, around 3.45 pm ,i lay down to rest after winding up the daily chores, and my daily ritual of visiting the indiaparenting site:).ironically,i had read archie's message regarding how labor stars just a few minutes ago!!i felt a hot gush- immidiately it struck me tht i was leaking and my baby was coming...i called the doc, my hubby.one of our relatives happens to b a very senior nurse in AIIMS.she lives close by and luckily happened to b off duty tht time.we also called my mom as my parents-inlaw were out of station those days.while hubby was picking up mom on his way from office,i quickly put the baby clothes for washing !I had called mom just 2 days back and voiced my inner feeling tht what will i do if the lil1 is born while inlaws r away?! i had still to get the clothes organized.tho i had done the basic shopping, my mom inlaw was not too happy wid the idea of doing things so much b4 the due date. acc to her there was time.my son dint agree wid her- he made her rush backfrom himachal- where she had gone, to make her welcome him :D but God bless my mom who, the very next day, just 1 day b4 i was admitted to the hospital, sent me dettol washed dozens of home-made cloth nappies, sheets, nappypadsand, old baby clothes:)i guess MOMS R THE BEST!!,GOD KNOWS IT ALL; HAS EVERYTHING PLANNED AND GETS EVEN THE LITTLE THINGS TAKEN CARE OF ....:)

i drank milk wid ghee 4 the 1st time; as i was to start it at 36 weeks, went too the doc's clinic, she confirmed i was leaking- the waterbag had burst, briefed the hospitalstaff on duty to wait for some time and if pains dont start, then induce them and then instucted my hubby to drive me to the hospital and get me admitted.by then i was 1 finger dialated, 25% effaced, membrane was obviously absent.

they gave me enema,i changed and the waiting game started. pains wernt strong enough even after 3 hrs.then they shaved me and i wondered aloud if they were preparing me 4 a csection. here in india, in private hospitals, they generally dont wait. but my doc said tht if thefetal heart was fine, she will go for a normal delivery . she sure did keep her word and her patience even after 24 hours of waiting...i am really grateful to her.

they kept checking the FHR periodically, put me on antibiotics.finally afteralmost 29hrs of slow but steady laborand my hubby's and docs support,my son seemed to b ready to come out.but my cervix wasnt dilating enough.so the docs started joking amongst themselves only to divert my attention, gave me a small cut and ordered me to push. by then i was so exhausted, hadnt eaten for 1and a half days, i cudnt think straight. but my hubby was so patient he re-explained each thing 4 times b4 i got the push right.finally at 9.28pm, he was born....our baby YASH, 2.6kg after 35w5d.my hubby was almost in tears, he wudnt speak while i was too tired to react.strange coz i am the emotional fool and he is the more practical1 around:)rajiv(my hubby) said tht when yash was being cleaned by the neonatologist, he turned his head in all directions and finally focussed in the direction where i lay....and kept looking continuously 2wards me:) and i thot such small babies dont focus:)

later, they stitched me up n only then i realised tht i had had an epistomy.BUT HEY!! NORMAL DELIVERY, 30 HRS OF LABOR AND PAIN AND STILL NO EPIDURAL- I DIDNT THINK I HAD THT MUCH ENDURANCE:)

after they shifted me to the room,i was forceD TO eat so tht they cud give me a pain killer. but i started screeming in pain...i cudnt sit. there was the same unbearable pressure i felt during labor, they checked n i was bleeding. i was rushed to the OT. they needed 4 ppl to hold ne so tht the anaesthtist cud inject. i was in immense pain, shaking and shivering...anyway, all is well tht ends well.later i was told tht bcos of such a long labor, some blood vessel burst inside and fluid kept collecting.it had to b cleared and the muscle restitched.

i also want to add for the benefit of those who r yet to deliver and may deliver early, tht my child who was born b4 completion of 36 weeks, developed neonatal jaundice and we worried too much. later, after reading on the net and talking to ppl, we found out tht this is normal- happens to a lot of babies especially those born early. it happens bcos the liver is premature and takes time adjusting to the outside environment.so bilirubin levels are higher than normal.it goes off in abt 2 weeks.they gave him phototherepy for a day in the hospital and later we kept him in the sun regularly for 5-6 days.

i have to rush now n have my bath b4 Yash gets up 4 his feed.

love to all mommies and their lil ones,
thanx to archie for her time and help,
shaily.

Congrats and an amazing birth story. I almost had tears in my eyes when I read about Yash being born, reminded me so much of my first pregnancy - and how similar things were when Aarya was born. The only difference being that after 24 hrs of labor and 7 cms dilation, I did opt for an epidural, and did not have an epsiotomy. Now waiting for my second one to arrive.
Congrats once again and all the best with Yash.

Have any of you pierced your baby´ s ears?
Have any of you pierced your baby' s ears? Where did you get it done? Were you able to change the earrings after the piercing and put on indian ear rings? My pediatrician does not do it, and she suggested that i take tanvi to the mall. Pls share your experiences at the mall if you' ve had any.

Ear piercing
My daughter was 5 months old when we decided to get her ear pierced. The non medical ear piercing options are painful and unsafe with possibilities of hepatitis, viruses and even HIV and I can never recommend it. My husband and I were looking for a safe, modern, gun shot piercing option which is completely safe, pain-free and with a traditional touch as well.
