My wife is in fifth month of pregnancy. she is passing very hard blackish coloured stools for the last two months. she started taking iron capsules just four days back. also most of the times she is consipated.

Constipation is perfectly normal during pregnancy.
She should include Fiber rich dietary component, may help including green vegetables, fresh fruits, dried prunes or prune juice, give her some dry plums, dry raisins also.
Constipation can get serious if not controlled with diet on regular babsis. The serious form is called hemorrhides in which she may bleed while passing her stool. It would also be that she would have to apply more pressure, which is not good while pregnancy. The best is to take good balanced food that is rich in fiber.

She can include bran in her breakfast cereals.
