Hello,
I am going to tirumala soon. This is my first visit. I am planning to shave my head there but not dare enough to do that. I would like to know how they do it there. Can somebody explain this & send some pictures before, during & after. So that I would not be worried much.

Thanks a lot for the suggessions. I am leaving to my grand parnets village in cuddapah today (or tomorow). I will be going to tirumala later in this week or early next week for the headshave. I am doing it along with two other friends. Thanks a lot for all the support. Have a nice time.

I keep visiting Tirumala quiet often and have seen many young girls getting tonured there, either because of some vow or for some extra fun and I found them go though the shave with a smile all through, so I guess you enjoy the same and will nto be able to ressit feeling you fresh smooth head after the shave is over. Yes its a little inconvenient to squat before the barber but for that the rest is great. If you have long hair, the barber will part it into two halves and knot it so that the hair is got secured for acution later. He will first wet the hair with water (sometimes you yourself must wet your hair while the person ahead of you is being attended to) and massage the head alittle so that the complete hair is wet till the root. If you have short hair he will not part it into two halves and not it. The actual shaving is just about a couple of minutes, they are adept at their jobs and do a great job. He will first shave the back of the head by bendning your head low and then will ask you to raise your head high and shave the front portion and then ask you to look to one side and all the hair behhind the ears is shaved and then you look the other side and you are all cleanly shaved and you will find the bundle of hair in you lap. He will qucikly feel your head with his hand and inspect if its evenly smooth and if not will stroke it with the straight razor and if you tip him with some money (No money needs to be payed to the barber at Tirumala) he will do the whole thing with a little more care and a closer shave and will also apply after shave lotion, just to ensure no infections etc occur. This is what happens in the Kalayanakatta, where thousands get their heads shaved ever day. You can also get barbers visit the cottage and shave you with a little more confort and you need to pay for the same. I have seen people fo that as well, where rhe entire family goes for tonsuring and this is convenient, since you can have your nath after that in the cottage and go for darshann.. Some people also apply sandle wood paste of the freshly shaved head after bath. This is all that is there. There are some people who are a little apprehensive of the razor and baldes used there and they carry their own and yet a few gils I have seen get their heads tonsured in uni-sex parlours and collect the hair and carry iit to Tirumala and deposit the same in a Hyundi.
Initially few days you might attract a lot of attention in your work place etc, but you can wear a cloth scarf, whichh can be very stylishh as well... and once the fresh new hair crops up you will feel good... Bye viji srinivas replied. u r planning to visit tirumala and hs at tirumala soon. Headshave is a simple process. First barber will put water on yr head and chop the hair then make two knots. Baber with the help of straight razor shave ur head from middle to forehead side then back.
it will be very thrilling for ladies since they have not made any haircut.

If you have a strong belief to shave your head at tirumala,you can do it.If your belief is strong why you should worry.I know one of my close friend in bangalore has gone for that.She told it was a nice experience.But she was not dare enough to come to the college for one month.Now it is ok for her.You decide yourself.If you want I can send her photos.But be aware of what you are doing.
