I am also in USA and was told by 2 docs that IUI canlead to multiple births as I hv PCO and they suggested IVF only . I was a bit disheartened and now thinking about going to India for IVF .

Yes, IUI can lead to multiples ( it has happened to two of our friends - twins and triplets )

However, the RE can fine-tune your injectable dose so that only 2 to 3 follicles are potential candidates for releasing a viable egg.

Also your RE should ask your to use a trigger like Ovidrel at exactly the right time.

You should definitely do IUI before a costly and complicated procedure like IVF. I would not feel too confident with my RE if he/she wanted to go for IVF straightaway. We tried 3 IUI cycles before we asked our RE for IVF.

I am in USA too. Bay Area. I have done all my treatment in USA only. To my experience i have not seen any dr. going straight for ivf if your infertility is due to PCO. Multiple birth can even occur with ivf. Normally dr´ s follow the protocol of 6 IUI with colmid , than next 6 cycle with injectiable medication (fertility drugs) and than they decide to move to ivf . there are some exceptions to this protocol if u have blocked tubes and cannot be opened, cancer or some other conditions too. I would say spend some time on internet reading about infertilty to educate yourself so that you can ask intellegent questions to your dr´ s rather than blindly following them. Join some USA based fertiltiy support forums. Hope it helps. feel free to ask any question to me. best luck
