Sleeping:9 month old baby does not sleep on her own -(‏
2009-02-25
Name: Oops

My 9 month old baby girl does not sleep on her own. She cries loudly when sleepy, we have to carry her for hours comforting her and singing lullabies before she finally falls sleep. She continually needs to be rocked during this period. I dont think it is normal. My mom complains of us getting her used to this. Please help.....how this habit can be changed??

My 5 month old daughter too doesnt go to sleep on her own. she shouts a lot while sleepy & cries a lot if she is not put to sleep by rocking her. This has already become a strong habit.
I started going to to work & my mom who looks after her is faing much difficulty to put her to sleep.
I strongly wish that she goes to sleep on her own which wud save much of our time (for both working parents) .

Mel & Ketaki - Thank you for your tips and help!! I have my fingers crossed and would wait for her to pass through this phase and go to bed and sleep on her own.

Thanks!!

I have been through the same thing. I had to rock my son to sleep when he was between the ages of 7-10 months. If we didn' t he just wouldn' t sleep. WOuld keep playing and playing, then get all irritable and whiny, but wouldn' t settle down.

But, eventually, he stopped it himself. He wouldn' t let us carry him when he was sleepy. As he grew a bit older, he would himself go and lie down with his bottle, and then sleep off. But, it worked only when we also lay in bed with him, with the lights off or dimmed.

Hi , I share the same story as yours. My 8 month old baby also needs to be rocked and cuddled before she goes of to sleep. This is all because of the habit and we are responsible for this. There is nothing abnormal in this and she can change her sleeping pattern if we accustom her to the new way. I request you to read sleep articles on babycentre as well on Dr. Sears website. This would surely give you many alternative ways to change sleep pattern.

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
