Sleeping:Is it necessary to feed at night for a 6 month old

My baby Arshiya is almost 6.5 months now. She wakes up 2 - 3 times at night and the only way i can calm her down is by feeding her bm. Can a 6 month old sleep through out the night ?
I would like to gradually reduce her habit. But how do i do that ? she screams at night if i donot feed her. Please advice.

SHE IS TOO SMALL TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT WITHOUT A FEED.

Please don' t let her scream. Her body must be aching with hunger and thirst in the middle of the night.

Honestly, I don' t believe in this mechanism. I think infants and toddlers should be allowed to stop night time feeding when THEY are ready, not because they have reached a certain age, or because we want them too. Most Indian babies continue to need night feeds until almost age 1.

If you want to gradually cut down on the number of times she wakes up... they try this:

Offer her watery formula... but increase the water very slowly.

So, for the first week, if she has 4 oz feed in one waking, then give her 3 oz formula + 1 oz water mixed in it. Do this for every NIGHT FEED only. And after 1 week, give her 2 oz. formula + 2 oz water mixed, week 3: 1 oz formula + 3 oz water. THis way she will slowly reduce her need to wake up. But, ensure that she is getting as much formula as she needs during the day. The last thing you want is for her weight to drop because of less milk intake.

Hi Mel, Thank you very much for your post. I am actually breast feeding her at night. Do i then feed her more water before she goes off to sleep ?

currently before sleeping she usually has medium bowl full of Rice and later 3 - 4 sips of water and ofcourse brest milk while she dozes off.

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
