Due Date Club February 2003:Working moms- are we going to continue work? lets

hi all!
well this is a question put up by AB, lets discuss!

dear AB, yes, i am working with a software company.. i was there in NJ for a short term assignment..

now i'm in b'bay, and have to commute a lot! so its becoming quite difficult to manage! :( so about a month back i gave my resignation notice, next friday is my last working day :))

i'm kind of happy... also conmfused and worried... cos softare market is donw now itslef.. don't know what the condition will be afetr an year or so! also i sure will be very difficult to start job hunt after one-year break!

but, actually i also stay with my husband.. and there'll be no one to care of the baby if i go back to work imme after delivery.. i too don't want to leave the baby in daycare so early, also if i go to office just for regulkat 9 to 5:30 timing , i have to start at 7 and i recah back home at 8! so all day is gone.. when will i spend time with my baby!! so finally thought that lets take a break for 1-1.5 yrs and then start a job again!

What are other moms-to-be planning to do?

hi dhanu,
i had taken up a temporary assignment in June for 2 months...( i did not know i was pregnant then coz i had just conceived )and then i came to know that the lady whom i m replacing has planned to quit the job and that the company is ready to offer me a permanent job. although the company is really good and i would have loved working for the company, i still intend to leave the job once i m in my 7th or 8th month.Like u, even i dont intend to work atleast till my baby is 1 -1.5 yr old. i want to take care of my baby and wish to spend lot of time withthe baby. lets see how things work out..
what r other working moms planning to do and manage?

yes its very much true...it depends upon priorities....I quit myjob when i conceived and felt I should make the most out of it ...I wanted to be with my baby and didnt want to leave her in a cretche or with a maid...I did have a wonderful time with her but on the other side I felt depressed when I started looking out for a job after 2 yrs. when s/w industry started coming down and was encountered with the ques. what I was doing all these days at home when I went for an interview...After much waiting, I've have decided to do something from home ..So gals do wish me luck ;-) !!!!
cheers!

dhanu, Thanks for initiating my discussion.

It is a very big dilemma for working moms, especially when u can't have ur parents or inlaws to stay with u. It is a big sacrifice, Dhanu- u r very much correct, software market is in rags right now, I can't imagine what it'll be in 2004. But I am too excited abt my baby to worry abt that, I believe whatever is in store for u will come to u, i believe in destiny.
Things apart, I don't want to miss my baby's growing years, I have seen my sister son grow, and have been so excited abt him , So i know everyday is a new experience with the baby .

I am sure thinking of other ways to work from home, or keep me occupied for couple of hrs a day, so that i don't get rusted in my field.lets see if something works out.
I will go back to work when my baby is more than year old.

All the best moms.
