I am in my second month. I am having severe morning sickness symptoms. My doctor has advised me to have plenty of water but I am unable to take it. I do not like the taste of water. Can I have cold drinks instead? what are other options available as I do not want to have complications?

During pregnancy, the body needs more water to cope with the demands of changing body. the body needs to be hydrated. You should never take aerated drinks or cold drinks as rather than hydrating, they cause more dehydration. they may also cause complications. If you don´ t like drinking water, try adding a wedge of lemon as it will add a zing to it. You could also add sprig of mint for extra flavour. You can add fresh coriander, grated ginger, fennel seeds for taste to the water. You can also have fresh fruit juices. Instead of water you can also have tender coconut water, fresh lime water, lassi, buttermilk, milk shakes and homemade jal jeera and aam panna.

It is very important for pregnant women to stay hydrated during pregnancy. Water aids in proper functioning of the body. Drinking enough water helps to flush out the toxins from the body and thus aid in digestion. In pregnancy, constipation is a common problem so drinking enough water prevents this problem. It also prevents nausea, headaches and dizziness. Proper hydration prevents swelling of feet in the last trimester and it also eases out the morning sickness symptoms. Drinking plenty of water also prevents Braxton Hicks contractions.
