Hi Girls,
hope you all are doing fine and enjoying your pregnancy. I guess some of you are nearing to complete ur first trimester. My doc suggested to go for 1st trimester genetic screening. However, I don' t have any family history of any down syndrome, spina bifida etc but am 33 years old and this is my first baby. These tests are quite expensive and not covered by insurance ....need suggestions
Thanks,
Ishi

in most foreign countries these tests are not covered as they are very expensive i have heard some of my people has spoken abt this to the hospital /insurance coverer u can do the same...
if mothers age is above 30 the risk of spina bifoda.potter syndrome, down syndrome.,afp percentage etc increases ..im 30 even i will b going through the test next few days time
it is essential because if the genetic deformity is too high a doc may suggest termination and term before 20 weeks is safe ..pls donot mind as i said this ... because its the fact so these test need to b done before 20 weeks... dont b afraid ..if financial constarint talk to ur doc..but if ur doc insisits go for it

in india the test varies from 1200 to 4000..triple test is 1200 i got it done tdy itself awaiting result ....
it is actually done with in 15 to 18th week done before or after this period result is usually wrong im now 17th week ..also next mnth will be mine annomaly test ... though the one done by gyne is over we are spcly refering to a radiologist to see all is fien or not ...im also consulting a dieticien as my sugar levels are a bit high but nothing to worry ...
as i have started my exercise and walking so there is nothing to worry as such ....
otherwise till now my preg is smooth sailing

thanks Reema for your encouraging words, I am thinking of going for 2nd trimester genetic tests as my doc also suggested that the tests done in 1st trimester has high false positive. These tests are very very expensive in the USA and are not covered by insurance unless the doc indicates the medical urgency....I duscussed with my family in India and they also want me to go for it, so making up my mind now....lets see how it goes. How about you? when are you scheduled for these tests and how much they cost in India? All the best, every thing will come out good!!!
Take care
