Glad to know you have started early on to know more about these critical issues. Wish I had done the same however I learnt it the hard way.

First very important thing is that your need to feed the baby with an hour of normal delivery or within 6 hrs of c section delivery even if there is no milk supply. this is very important to stimulate rooting, homing and sucking reflex in babies. besides you would be getting a thich liquid called colustrum in the intial days which is extremely nutritious for babies. even few drops is ample for a new born infant.

later on even if therer is not enough milk supply do not give top feed at all as gradully milk production increases to meet the demand. There is generally a growth spurt in 3weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months time when you would feel shortage of milk for a day or two but continue breastfeeding only.

In case you need to go out you could express milk and give it to the baby however dont introduce bottle until breast feeding in well established as chances are that the baby might get very fussy over breast once it gets used to easier bottle feeding. I have used couple of breast pumps and Medela is best. I got it for Rs. 4500 from Pharmacy in cradle in jayanagar, Bangalore.
