Due Date Club January 2006:Swelling - Archie pl. advice

Archie and all others,

I am due on Jan 28th. Lately I am getting my hands and feet swollen quite a lot. In my Dec 30th appointment, I showed that to my OB/GYN and she was ok with it as my BP was normal (108/72). She just had asked me to keep my feet elevated when sitting and reduce salt intake. I have done both, but still have swelling on hands and feet. Also for last 4-5 days when I get up in morning, I notice that my face is swollen too, which goes alright in 30-45 minutes once I am on feet. My hands also go ok in 3-4 hours but feet remain swollen all day long and get worse if I am standing for a while. I told that to my doc in my Jan 9th appointment and she was still ok as my BP was normal again (110/70).

She said she would be concerned if I have swelling on face with severe headache (which doesn't go with rest/Tylenol) or high BP. Although I don't have high BP or bad headache, I am still concerned if it is something to worry about. Also, I would mention that I have got small bubble like rashes on my right palm; if I scratch, they get worse. Otherwise, they don't hurt and old ones subside in couple days.

Archie, could you pl. provide your comments on this. I have full faith in my doc but I would like to get your opinion on this.
Thanks!

I had a little bit of swelling, and then I started drinking boiled water with ajuan/sonff. I dont know what those herbs are in english. Anyways, all the swelling is gone. It soaks up the excess water. It also helps with the swelling after you have you have the baby. You can cool the water after you boil it, just dont drink is cold.

NG,
Swelling that subsides in hours and not extending during active period on face is perfectly normal. This is expected during terminal stages of pregnancy. As said by your OB don't take salt. I would even go further and request to reduce carbohydrate intake. avoid white breads or bleached flour.

the swelling gets on face and hands in night is due to limited blood circulation and your case to me sounds a very much of fluid retension, which is absolutely fine.

seat legs elevated and try to walk after meals for 45 minutes or so.

about palm and rash, do not scratch it's normal to get it worse as your hormones are relaxed on body. Don't worry about that either.

Have any of you pierced your baby´ s ears?
Have any of you pierced your baby' s ears? Where did you get it done? Were you able to change the earrings after the piercing and put on indian ear rings? My pediatrician does not do it, and she suggested that i take tanvi to the mall. Pls share your experiences at the mall if you' ve had any.

Ear piercing
My daughter was 5 months old when we decided to get her ear pierced. The non medical ear piercing options are painful and unsafe with possibilities of hepatitis, viruses and even HIV and I can never recommend it. My husband and I were looking for a safe, modern, gun shot piercing option which is completely safe, pain-free and with a traditional touch as well.
