Mood swings in pregnancy are due to hormonal changes. The more severe the symptoms of morning sickness are the more depressed one gets. Physical symptoms of pregnancy also lead to mood swings. The thought of not being able to get back into pre-pregnancy shape after childbirth is also a cause of depression. These can only be alleviated by awareness.

I had severe morning sickness symptoms so I was very depressed in the first trimester of pregnancy. I could hardly enjoy my pregnancy. My husband tried to lift my mood by frequent get-away and telling jokes. Somehow this did help me.
