Due Date Club November 2003:What a relief!

Hi All. I finally called up hospital to find out my Glucose and other blood test results. Both Glucose and Iron levels are within normal limits. The iron level in August, when the test was taken was 11.9. I don't know much about it however with the coming weeks, baby might take more out of the body so iron level might drop. So wondered if anyone knew the standard we had to maintain for Iron levels so that I can ask doc if I need additional supplements just for iron?? My appointment is on Thursday. Thanks.
I can get back to enjoying my sweets and regular diet now...phew!

Hey Simmi,

Congrats on clearing ur GTT. It must be a gr8 relief. Now u can treat urself to some sweets, without any fear or guilt :-)

I'm not too sure about the iron levels, but for asian women, who are believed to be slightly on lower side of iron levels, anything above 11.5 is considered to be normal, during entire pregnancy. But as Vindhya mentioned, there might be diffrnt reqd levels. Had no idea about that. But since urs is 11.9, I guess thats very much within the reqd level.

Enjoy urself and take care.

Rgds/Nikita.

Hi Nikita. Thx a lot for ur wishes. Well, I was 11.9 in August, when the test was taken, however, the levels do drop in last mths as baby takes more nutrition due to growing size. So bit concerned how to maintain the right level. But hopeful that the supplements will make sure all goes well.
U too enjoy good food without worries!
Take care.

Subject:  Iron levels depend on weeks of gestation

Hi Simmi,

Congrats on clearing your glucose tests, must have a great relief. My doctor said that the normal iron-level was 11.7 and mine was 11.6 at 26th week. Thats why, my case is considered as mild anemia.

I believe the distribution of Hb concentration and Hct and their cutoff values for anemia differ between children, men, nonpregnant women, and pregnant women and by age or weeks of gestation. These distributions also differ by altitude, smoking, status, and race.

Based on the information below, I am confused as what doctors follow.

Weeks gestation Hemoglobin conc Hematocrit
12 11.0 33.0
16 10.6 32.0
20 10.5 32.0
24 10.5 32.0
28 10.7 32.0
32 11.0 33.0
36 11.4 34.0
40 11.9 36.0

Trimster
First 11.0 33.0
Second 10.5 32.0
Third 11.0 33.0

Vindhya

Hey Simmi, I am glad you got through both those tests, especially the GT test cause a Iron levels can be maintained by making just a few changes to the diet...
I hope all of make through the rest of the two months healthy, safe and sound...I am sure we will... :)

I realised that you and I were in a completely different time zone when like you said, I noticed that we never seem to reply to one another like Vindhya and I seem to usually do...
For the past few months, I go to work and the first thing I do is check the board with the thought at the back of my head that I will see your messages... :)

I will surely post a pic, very soon.... I think I will post two - before and after-cause then you will know that I was not always this FAT...I hope you are ready to see a gigantic woman.. :) soooooooonnn...
