Hello all,
I have not visite this forum from many days, infact its nearly 1.5 year. So many msgs.
Thanks to all.
My brothers upanayanam was over during 2015 march.
Every family has thier own way of doing it. In my family when upanayanam discussion started, elders were talking about tonsure, ear and nose piercing and making the boy to wear saree or half saree.
when we decided to do it, my brother was close to 15 years, and I feel it look bad to pierce his nose and dress him saree at that age and even my brother was worried a lot.
I was checking in online about the facts and details, and ann way to avoid the nose piercing and dressing him
It was not manadatory, but elders in the house didnt agreed.
My brother has to fulfil all the requirements from tonsuring, piercing and dressing.
Like other people, we didnt made my brother to grow his hair for long time. hair was normal, we just made him to wear half saree and used some hair extensions.
Usually upanayanam will happen during the age 5-6 years in our family, somehow my brothers was delayed as we stayed very far.
Function happened in our village temple.
Before going to temple, in the morning, we dressed him like a girl and took him. At temple first his head was tonsured, as a sister I have to do the first 3 steps in tonsuring.
Then he change his dress to a cloth and his ears were pierced after that nose (on both the sides). we didnt pierced the nostril.
After that some rituals happened for 2 hours, finally we returned our home by 11:00 in the morning. My brother was little tensed with all these.
In the afternoon, for one last time, we (mother, aunt and cousins) dressed him in saree, took some photos and to temple.
finally it was done.
now the pierced ears were almost closed as my brother didnt wear any earrings after the fucntion.
Onething is its very tough for boys to do all these. During small age its ok, but during teenage and youngage its difficult, if they dont like it.
But I had fun during the function time, now my brother also is taking it light.
Thank you.
Harini replied. Hi Kala, as he is aged you can cut down some of the rituals from your end as he will not feel comfortable in getting piercing done in front of his friends. Gold its up to him if he want to keep it worn he can or remove it.
Vani replied. Hi Kala, you can go online and take some tips as not everyone here in this platform will have a detail idea about this ritual so talk to a priest or check online for perfect ideas.
Jiya replied. Hi Kala, rather than asking these things online its better to take some advice from the priest as they are the one who can provide you with the best idea about this in detail.
NN replied. I think the person whose function is being done is supposed to be feminized before the function as well. I am not sure if he has to be feminized after the function too or not. Also acc to what i know nose piercing is not mandatory.
Ashna replied. Your biggest duty as a sister will be to be there for him and support him in this as it is a really big deal for him and you will be wanting to tease him a lot but do not make him uncomfortable that day and let him enjoy.
Jitesh replied. I did not know about upanayanam but i tried searching it online and everything i read was a little different from the other article. I think this is because all the families do not follow the exact same traditions and rituals.
Forum replied. A friend of mine had to pierce his ears but was given a choice for his nose piercing and he chose not to do it as it will get awkward for him later. Ask or grandfather for the exact details about the function.
Karan replied. I don't know what upanayanam is but it surely sounds like an interesting function. Can you please give some more details about it so that everyone know what exactly it is and why is it celebrated the way it is.
Ashish replied. I think nose piercing is not mandatory as two of my friends had the same function this month but only one of him got his nose pierced. Traditions followed by every family are different and you should ask your parents.
Sakshi replied. I think it is best to ask about the traditional ceremonies and rituals to grandparents or the elders as they have better knowledge about it than any one online or of your age and also sometimes families follow different traditions.
Hardika replied. I am not sure about the rituals that are performed before during and after upanayanam but if you have a doubt you should ask your elders like your grandmother or your parents as they might have better knowledge about it.
No Name replied. Hello Every one,
Many people are following all traditions now days and they were happy to celebrate all these things again. And i wish no one must follow our customs and traditions though we are highly educated. How many will agree with me.
