Hi Hetal ,

My son is 11 months old.He is not able to sleep through the night(I am worried as he is not compenstaing during the day time.)He had a respiratory tract infection 2 weeks back and has recovered completely(No cough ,cold and fever).Another thing that I observed was his tongue' s surface had turned white patchy and his voice had gone a bit rough in the last week. His doctor had said that he will be fine on his own and he actually did.
However ,for the past 2/3 nights,he wakes up in the midnight and starts cring very badly .I have to lift him, stand and sometimes rock him to pacify him ,else he continues to cry.
I have no clue what is wrong with him as I have not made any dietary changes. Please find his diet schedule:
Moring Raagi with milk -9:30 AM
BAnana -11:30 AM
Chapati with milk(mashed) 2 PM
Milk with biscuits 5:30-6:PM
9:30 Dinner(Rice with veggies or dal or curd)

Sometimes in between these feeds he has fruits like apple or custard apple etc.

He will be fine during day time (No crankiness)

Also he was gaining regular 400-500 gms of wt,however after the infection he has lost some 1/2 kg odd wt and also looks very lean. His current weight is 7.6 kgs

Thanks,
Yogini

hi...apart from what mg said,,,n
acc to the schedule n details, you postd in,,the schdle is incomplte to me..so as of now, with all details,,i can only say that he is not gettng enough mealss which makes him hungry at night.
at 11months, he needs to have cows milk or formula- 5-7oz,
breakfast1/4thcup,
morning brunch of some fruit or soup1/4th cup or less,
afternoon lunch1/4th cup of an adult serving of various family meals, vegies, wheat serving, lentil serving n rice serving,
late afternoon brnch, could be aroun 3-4oz fresh juice of various fruits plus some crackers, or cheese, or a serving of yogurt,,if you are offrng milk at this time, thn avoid juice nd let juice be 2-3oz in early evening(after1hour),,n then all the way, goes the dinner(1/4thcup of an adult serving per item ! )
and lastly before sleep, a full glass of milk or formula on an approx of 5-7oz,,whatver he fits in...

with recent infection,,its possble that he might have lost the apetite n thereby lost his wght..if so,he should be able to regain his apetite in 3-4days..offer what he likes,,during these time dont force,,offer varieties of colours n shapes, or items in the meal tray so that he is tempted to eat !

give your child lots of playtime in before dinner or 30min after dinner,,so that he makes use of his energy and feels the need of sleep..
if you child is the one who happens to get overstimulatd thn balance the physical activities during the day time, and reduce his sleeping hours and before good night sleep, give a good warm bath with a light massage...it will help..
good luck

Subject:  Observe this

Hi Yogini,

This happened to my son also. Somebody in the forum suggested to observe the following things -
1. Check the baby is over-fed during day which might be causing colic-pain during night
2. Check if the temperature of the room is not too less or more.
3. Is he teething
For my son temperature was the problem. During night, due to voltage improvement, fan was making the room very cold and he will drop his blanket. So, started putting him is half sweater while sleep. This clicked.
HTH.
Thanks,
MG

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
