Name: worried

i have a 9 month old son who is on track development wise.. he crawls, babbles, cruises, pulls up to stand etc. .however i am concerned that he responds when his name is called only sometimes.. he doesnt turn his head to his name always.. sometimes he looks.. sometimes he seems to be so engrossed in his play and doesnt look up when his name is called. is this normal?? am so worried. he does respond sometimes.. but most of the time.. he is involved in his own work.. otherwise hes a very happy kid.. loves to smile, laugh etc.. pls tell me what to expect frm him at this age.

And BTW, I forgot to say that if at 9 months your baby is cruising etc., he deserves congratulations for his efforts and you too. And that further explains that what he is busy doing when you call his name out :o) Enjoy his moves.

Subject:  Don´ t Worry

Hello Ms Worried,

Stop worrying. I am no ped, but after being a mom for about 9 months now [that seem like a big time!], I now understand one thing that babies are very very moody and very very intelligent also. My baby behaves exactly the way you have described and I felt nothing to worry at all. Don' t we as adult behave similar when we are too engrossed in work, want to ignore, too tired or perhaps just lazy...

At this stage our babies are interacting very actively with the environment, even if they dont appear to be doing so. They are too engrossed in exploring the world and in all this, often their mommy' s sweet call is probably something forgranted and need no special attention :o) In my opinion as long as he does respond occasionally, there is nothing to worry. And still if you are worried you can talk to your ped.

hello jayashree
dont get afraid and dont loose hopes, your son is absolutely fine, and give him the proper tuition and avoid more playing periods of his, and you should teach him at home when you will get free time.... - praglabh [View Message]
