I was reading ur post regarding starting solids in feb board to komal.
My baby is 4.5 months old and I was planning to start solids/formula only after 6 months. My baby girls birth weight was 5.9 pounds and she was 12.5 pounds at her 4 month checkup. The doc suggested that I introduce formula atleast for one feed. Till then I was exclusively breastfeeding her. Problem is she doesnt feed for more than 5 mins. So I feed her every 2 hours still in the day time. I used to feed her every 2 hours almost during the night also til around 15 days back. But now that she has rolled over,, she sleeps on her tummy and doesnt seem to get up for feeds in the night. She has a 4 ounce formual feed in the night at 7 and goes to sleep and gets up only at 4-6 Am for another feed.
Was wondering if it is fine and also was wondering if her weight gain is ok. Can i continue to breast feed her with just one feed of formula and delay starting solids. She seems fine and active with the current feedings. My worry being she just feeds for 3-5 mins at a sitting.So just wondering if she is getting enough? Even if i pump she wont take more than a 4 ounce bottle? I thought babies at this age feed 5-8 ounces atleast 5 to 6 times...so the worry...

Thanks for the support... Hetal replied. yup, its fine, she is 4.5months,,ok to bf or bottle feed on demand and allow them to sleep for 5-6hours..no probs.
formula fed babies tend to sleep better (unless colicky etc) nd longer..m fine.
start her on formula, introduce more feeds of formula if required or if you are unable to bf or she doesnt seem to be well satisfied even after bf,,and try to delay solids until 6months.though dont delay at the cost of her health..
eye on her wght and it will tell the stats..right now its k.

repect her apetite,at 4.5months to 5months, she is expected to drink an approx as below in 24hours..irrespective of per feed whatever she takes,,

now onwards your child is no more a newborn and now a mature baby so she will show her acceptance n apetite to whatever you will introduce !

count her intake in 24hours and check on her wght :
Breast milk: on demand
OR
Iron-fortified formula: 4–5 feedings of 6–8 ounces each,,. the total range wherein your baby should take is like 24oz-40oz,,dpending on apetite !

it could be more or less 5oz..so no worries..just make sure she doesnt remain hungry.trust your mother insticts, these are just the normal range and its not at needed that a baby has to follow it !! once a while babies like to fast the other times, they are on growth spurt, drinking without ne counts ! respect that,,,

no worries.her health will tell you the stats.
