Sleeping:Dummy/Pacifier while sleeping

Hi,
My son is 8+ months now. He is getting addicited to a pacifier nipple. If he wants to sleep, he wants it at any cost. If I dont give it to him, he will cry so loudly. Yesterday, he even vomited while crying. I felt so guilty. I dont know what to do. Earlier, he used to take the pacfier, immediately go to sleep, then i used to remove it and then he will sleep almost whole night. But, now each day, things are getting worse. He is getting up at night 3-4 times. And everytime he wants the pacifier.
Otherwise he is all ok. He eats well, active, weight is also ok.
Please tell me if any other mom faced similar experience and how did u cope with it.
Thanks,
Monika

My older son (who is 7 years now) needed a pacifier to sleep too. But I threw it off when he was 10 months. He was quick to train and everything was fine. But my now 10 month old needs a pacifier to sleep. A month after he started I didn' t use it during the daytime and he was fine..but my husband found it easy to make him sleep with a pacifier (of course it took longer for him to sleep without it but he wouldn' t fuss). And now he definitely needs a pacifier to sleep. I keep trying to make him sleep without one. Once or twice he has slept without a fuss...but usually he cries a lot if I don' t give it and the moment it is in his mouth, he falls asleep.
I' m still going to keep trying..it might take a few months. But my doc doesn' t see it as a problem and she says some kids need more comforting than others and that' s okay ..he' ll grow out of it. She says...after one year he might be able to understand and then even if he fusses, ignore. My problem is not the ignoring part (I can do that)...but my younger son is very loud!

Hi,

My son is 18 months old and i' m facing the same problem. He wants pacifier most of the times in night,he wakes up 4-5 times n if i don' t give him he cries loudly without even opening his eyes.I tried many times but when he cries in the sleep i can' t see him.I feel soooo...guilty.Don' t no how to get rid of this situation.
I think it' s getting difficult as he is growing older,he is getting addicted to it more day by day.He needs pacifier only when he wakes up in the middle of his sleep.
Somebody can help me.....
Thanks
MM

My baby also uses a pacifier to sleep...and I put a couple around her in the night in case she wants one...

My ped said it was fine and she' ll grow out of it when she becomes a toddler...specially when she sees other toddlers without one..right now its just a comfort thing for the baby...

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
