Sweets and Desserts:simple dessert recipes?
2006-03-09
Name: K.Radha

Hi There,
My hubby is Indian and I am not but I'd like to make him some indian desserts. I am not very confidant in the kitchen espec when trying new recipes. Can anyone suggest some simple recipes to start with before I try anything harder? Thank you SO much in advance for any help you can give.

Hi Radha
get two cups of dessicated coconut.lightly roast it in a non stick vessel.the moment it gets a very light golden ,rmove from flame and add 1/2 of sweetened condensed milk(milkmaid) gradually.while pouring the milk, make sure u r stirring it vigourously.return to flame and let both things mix properly for two minutes. make sure that the mixture is not too pasty.
just cool it a bit and shape into balls and roll in some dessicated coconut.
they taste delicious and are done in 15 minutes.

Hi
Try custard and Kheer ( kind of south indian payasam) first they are easy and tasy too. then go and try gulab jamun I think u can get the mix in grocery stores in north america and they have recipe rwritten on it.
U can also try to make Kulfi from Gits mix or from Nestle mix, Nestle is a good one Gits only if nestle not available

Goodluck !

Dear Radha,

The website www khanakhazan com is very good for beginners.
Books by Tarla Dalal are also good and worth buying.
The simplest Indian dessert is the \";kheer\"; made from milk.
All the best....
Mita
